Motherboards with good spacing between PCIe x16 slots

The article on the revised $2,000 build states that Tom's was looking for "a super-stable board with two PCIe x16 slots that were at least three spaces apart. Unfortunately, we couldn’t find any within our budget. Giving up our three-slot spacing desires, Gigabyte’s X58A-UD3R was the default...

    System Builder Marathon: TH's $2000 Hand-Picked Build

The article states they were looking for "a super-stable board with two PCIe x16 slots that were at least three spaces apart. Unfortunately, we couldn’t find any within our budget. Giving up our three-slot spacing desires, Gigabyte’s X58A-UD3R was the default choice." So what's an example of a...

New AMD cards by the end of the year

The "Best Graphics Cards For The Money" article said "We already know that AMD has an end-of-year answer to Nvidia's recent activity. Perhaps it'll wait until then to pounce." Where can I find info about the upcoming release? Thanks

Oracle Calls HP Out on ''Vindictive'' Lawsuit

Ok tburns, put your money where you mouth is. Call up your 401(k) manager and tell them to sell your shares of any company that is "mean" or whatever, regardless of how profitable it is or beneficial to your retirement fund. Tell them to put pressure on any CEO who is "mean" despite how much...

Oracle Calls HP Out on ''Vindictive'' Lawsuit

The anti-Hurd posters clearly have little business knowledge. Hurd is widely credited, and properly so, for returning HP to relevance. He nearly tripled the stock price during his tenure and managed several key acquisitions that substantially improved HP's competitiveness in key sectors. Did...

Monitor flickering with GTX 470 SLI

My 30" monitor occassionally flickers horizontal lines in low resolutions, and flickers on and off and is unusable at higher resolutions. This is true both in games and the desktop. Any ideas?

    I've got ~$2800 for a gaming pc...let's play!

Great, thanks. Any thoughts on the HDD? Is there any reason to go the 6 gb/s route? Is there a real benefit from the asus premium mobo compared to the gigabyte udr3?

    I've got ~$2800 for a gaming pc...let's play!

I completely agree. However, I have limited time and would prefer spending a few hundred extra bucks to have it assembled for me.

    I've got ~$2800 for a gaming pc...let's play!

I'm strongly considering Cyberpower for the build below. I intend to play on my new 30" monitor in 2560 x 1600 in as many games as possible. I'm looking for advice on how to tweak the build to either improve performance or drop the price slightly by trimming unnecessary parts. For example...

    2 GTX 470 in SLI vs. 1 Radeon 5970

Maybe I should just go for the gold and get 2 GTX 480s in SLI. Then it's just a question of managing the heat and noise. I'm planning on using Cyberpower to build the computer, and would pick the Coolermaster Storm Sniper case. Methinks, with proper air cooling, the case should be tolerably...

    2 GTX 470 in SLI vs. 1 Radeon 5970

Excellent, thanks for the tips. I'm also considering GTX 480s in SLI, but I don't think the cost increase justifies the performance boost. I've got some money to burn, but not THAT much...
