Opposing Comcast's Internet Bandwidth Cap (Opinion)

Does this cap also apply to Comcast Business customers? With government mandated Electronic Medical Records, and most of those services being in the Cloud, Health Service Providers in Comcast-only areas are going to be in for a rude surprise.

Best Graphics Cards For The Money: January 2012 (Archive)

The AMD R9 270 is (I think) the least expensive graphics card that has a 256-bit memory bus. It's currently available for about 5$ more than the AMD R7 265 (128-bit) and the nVidia 750Ti (also 128-bit). As it can easily be overclocked to R9 270X speeds, I'm kind of surprised that it was...

    Test CPU last resort

Have you tried setting your BIOS to default for all settings? Also in BIOS have you tried turning OFF the Advance Power Handling options?

Computer Newbie Upgrading PC, help please.

You said you don't know what kind of mother board you have and that you saw your power supply when the Acer guy came down to fix your computer. Don't be afraid to explore on your own; take off that side panel and have a look yourself. A flashlight and magnifying glass are handy to have. There...

Need help upgrading an old pc's video and cpu

Pentium-4 on the 478 pin boards pegged out at about 3.1-3.2 Ghz. If you dropped a 3.2 GHz cpu into your board you would see a 33% increase over your current speed. Add in Hyper-Threading found on the faster P-4's and you machine might feel significantly faster. So if you can find one of these...

    E7500 or Q8300?

Ignore my previous post; an E5300 is going to be inadequate to your new card. With regard to overclocking on any Intel cpu, the stock cooler will be insufficient. It's as if Intel 'undercools' them on purpose as a way to remind you that if you are going to overclock, you are on your own.

    775 upgrade

Besides differing clock speeds, the big difference in the EXXXX processors is the amount of onboard cache. Note however that the E5300 and E6500 are the same in this respect at 2MB, while the E7400 has 3MB. Some games benefit from the additional size, others don't. Of the 3 chips, only the...

    E7500 or Q8300?

This may sound crazy, but since you said that you only use this rig for gaming, and you didn't say you were looking to upgrade your video card, there's a way you could save a lot of cash. Buy an E5300 for ~$60 and overclock it to 3.4-3.6 GHz. I think that would provide you with the best...

USB/SATA 3, Did Intel Blow It?

By limiting the on-board PCI-E controller to 16 lanes, the P-55 already limited graphics choices to a single 16x config or dual 8x. My point being that if SATA/USB 3 were already on the drawing board when Intel was mapping out P-55, wouldn't someone have noticed that 16 lanes were going to be...

Wife says no to spending $ on Computer

Take her aside and explain that modern civilization is base on consumer indebteness, and that as a good citizen it is your responsibility to spend more than you make. Therefore, the choice simply comes down to what you are spending in excess on... Point out your neighbors Big-Foot truck, the...

USB/SATA 3, Did Intel Blow It?

Did Intel not see SATA & USB 3 coming when it designed the P55 chip(set) with its 16-lane on-chip PCI-E controller? Or was Intel already too heavily invested in the P55 design and left with no alternative other than foot-dragging in the hopes that it could get market saturation before anyone...

Experiment: Does Intel’s Turbo Boost Trump Overclocking?

As was mentioned by 'dfusco' I think it would be interesting to determine the effect of over-clocking to the limit that 'turbo-boost' could still be left on. Granted, you're not going to get 4-cores at 4 GHz with Turbo-boost; so full overclocking will still be the winner; but I'm curious as to...

System Builder Marathon, Dec. 2009: $2,500 Performance PC

Good article and it's nice to know that even the experts we look up to live-and-learn on a demanding computer build. How many times have we answered the question "What computer parts should I get?" with "How much money do you have to spend?" Here's a novel idea to silence the critics who...
