News U.S. gov't mulls taking a stake in Intel to speed up Ohio campus fab build out

I agree with thesrtryker's point of tying investments to the continuation of node advancement. Especially at this point when Intel already has one foot in the door for that. The country already pays for many less fruitful scientific pursuits.

News Intel promises to keep updating its game-boosting software despite recent delays — APO will only focus on current and upcoming Intel CPUs

This is expected and good. If I see a game on the APO list then I will know it can be tuned for more performance in the bios. And why is the need to troll for AMD so strong among some?

News All the pains of Intel: from CPU design and process technologies to internal clashes and political pressure

My argument is simple. AMD did not and could not "beat" Intel alone. TSMC played a major, if not dominant role in AMD's performance improvements relative to their intel counterpart chips in the consumer area. Take away TSMC and AMD would have had Samsung and no 3D cache. And would trail.

News All the pains of Intel: from CPU design and process technologies to internal clashes and political pressure

Not a lot of time to read it, but apparently you think that AMD would be doing just as well if Ryzen was on Glofo 28nm? Seems like a whole lot of deflecting from my point that without a better process node and 3d cache AMD would still be behind.

News All the pains of Intel: from CPU design and process technologies to internal clashes and political pressure

It was only partly AMD, mostly TSMC. 3D fabric is a TSMC innovation, and if AMD chips consumed considerably more power the non 3D just wouldn't be able to compete, much less win. Raptor Lake is still DUV lithography. AMD did not make EUV, they ordered it from TSMC, like 3D cache. The 9950X...

News AOL will end dial-up internet service in September, 34 years after it's debut — AOL Shield Browser and AOL Dialer software will be shuttered on the...

I just checked and you can still get 10 free hours of dial up a month with NetZero. That's what I used to use because no way was I going to pay AOL's prices. But it was pretty bad with most of the bandwidth going to ads. Could make a great punishment for kids though.

News Battlefield 6 keeps crashing on Intel Arc GPUs — here are some workarounds until Intel releases a fix

It only took a day for the fix driver to come out and I think it came out before the regular opening of the beta.

In what company are worker bee engineers allowed to speak to the press about company product issues? I work at a mid sized, privately owned company and everyone knows you don't speak to any press about anything to do with the company's products.

Hasn't 18A already entered risk production, so isn't TSMC 2nm technically a trailing node?

Degradation happens due to similar atomic factors as diffusion and creep where atoms "jump" over a spot in the atomic structure. But instead of the main driving force being reduction of free energy in diffusion, or accommodating physical stress in creep, electrical forces, primarily voltage...

News Three senior execs to retire from Intel Foundry, including respected semiconductor veteran Gary Patton

I am not familiar with this Charlie D. And IFS 2.0 has had contracts go bad already? Like consoles at TSMC bad? (You couldn't get those for like a year because of lack of production.) News to me. And Arrow Lake's transition seemed pretty turn-key.

It doesn't seem to be the microcode. I updated my office pc to that one and my 13600kf is fine with your old 13900k clocks: At least with an MSI board. Maybe you have some new setting in your Asus bios that needs to be toggled to get your old clocks back. I noticed the new bioses default to...

Am I not allowed to speak of my first hand experience? I keep hearing of these people having trouble with the effect of too high volts and and am telling how to reduce them. And speak from what I've seen from over a decade overclocking that when you go over 1.5v on a CPU then degradation...

Why do you think the engineers are in charge of the public relations and legal departments? Do you think they have the only say in this, and do you think they want to get their hands dirty in this screw up by somebody in charge over there? Do you think one will say: "I knew the power delivery...

News Three senior execs to retire from Intel Foundry, including respected semiconductor veteran Gary Patton

Tan apparently has disagreements with the scope of spending on fabs without enough confirmation of ROI. If Gary Patton was behind this it would definitely put him behind the 8 ball. This is just conjecture on my part as we don't have enough information, but it is certainly plausible that it is...
