I have been having weird WiFi problems for the past couple of weeks on my Dell Inspiron N7110. I will run a continuous ping to my router and get ping times ranging from 50 to 300 MS. I also have periods where I lose 50% or more of the packets. It doesn't matter how close I am to the router...
