Update: Last night I reseated the GPU, connected display and the PC powered up as it should. It doesn't look as stressed as it use to and the GPU slot lines up nicely with the case - I guess the guy putting it in wasn't very careful. I also removed the PU and flipped it over - it now pulls air...

Hi All. My new IBP build arrived yesterday and it wouldn't display anything to my monitor. After reviewing all of the cables, et al ... I noticed that the graphics card was stressed so that it would fit into the holes in the case ... i pulled the graphics card, swapped my monitor to the mobo...

Thanks Rolli - it was a WD drive. I added some details about when I installed it (Aug 2011). My old drive was failing and making horrid noises as well so I know about failing drives. This drive is super silent ... but I will run some diagnostics against it. Could it be my cheap connector...

I have 2 x WD 1TB Caviar Blue drives on my WinXP box installed Aug 2011. The second one is just one huge partition that I use for internal backups of the other drive. It is Drive X. About once a week (or so), it simply disappears on me ... my backup software cannot write to it and file...

Moose / Anon - thanks for your replies. I think that you have addressed the boot part of my OP but not the first part about XP HDDs v Win7 HDDs ... can Win7 read a Win XP HDD? Or do I need to reformat?
