I7-4770K on sale near me, should I get it?

I should prefice this by saying that I already own and use an i5-3570k. The issue is that Microcenter is having an in-store pick up only sale on the 3570k for $149 and the 4770k for $199, and I'm having trouble justifying the purchase other than because I'll likely never see one at this price...

Questions about Watercooling and OCing my next rig.

I was more wondering if there was a particular subforum on tom's that is specific for modding/scratch builds/build logs. Looks like there are only a few threads dedicated to finished rigs, and such. Not really seeing many build logs though. Looks like if I'm going to put this build log...

Any part of this forum I should stick to?

Questions about Watercooling and OCing my next rig.

Back to the topic of making a the scratch build, where would I likely go to post up a build log, as now I'm getting really into this idea I have swirling around my head. Is there are particular set of brands I should avoid at all costs for any parts of a water cooling loop?

Questions about Watercooling and OCing my next rig.

Well it sounds like I can stick with a single D5 and be fine. I was just thinking that for the desk build, I'd want 2 rather large reservoirs (like 500mL each for the aesthetic and the more water the system has, the cooler the water stays) and wanted to be sure, that a single D5 could move all...

Questions about Watercooling and OCing my next rig.

Gotcha, I'll keep an eye on the fittings and the spacing of the GPU blocks for when I get that connector. Is there a maximum limit to the quantity of water that a single loop should contain. If a loop were to be large enough, would a second pump be a practical choice or is it better to make a...

I know that difference, I mean a bridge between the water blocks of a Crossfired or SLI-ed pair of graphics cards.

NAS and Media Server RAID questions

The NAS would be the backup. The media server would be the method of broadcasting music/movies, while the NAS is there as a backup. Or I may be misunderstanding the use of NAS as a backup, instead of a different method as a back up system.

Questions about Watercooling and OCing my next rig.

I hope that the only cables visible with the desk would be the keyboard on the desk itself, and the power cable to the wall. I'd prefer the look of the compression fittings, so I'll probably go with those. Is there a difference between a SLI fitting or a XFire fitting, or are they the same...

Questions about Watercooling and OCing my next rig.

My issue with on-the-desk cable management isn't that I can't bundle up my cables, it's my little 'cable murder machine' (my 6 month old kitten) likes to play with cables, regardless of how well I bundle them. So I wanted to basically eliminate the on-the-desk cables for the desk build, but...

NAS and Media Server RAID questions

I don't think my question understood at first, so I edited my original post. What I'd like to have is a media server that would run in RAID 0 for performance or as JBoD if RAID 0 would be unnecessary. For the NAS I'd run in RAID 1 while backing up my media server and my gaming pc, while also...

NAS and Media Server RAID questions

What would be the best RAID solution for a backup NAS and Home Media Server? My best guess would be to use RAID 0 for the home media server for speed while using RAID 1 for the NAS that will be used for backups, as well as being able to access non-media files from multiple computers. I'd...

Questions about Watercooling and OCing my next rig.

So suddenly I have way more desire to build up a desk from scratch and have it house, not just my gaming PC, but also the NAS and the Home Media Server that I plan to build in the future. As an engineering student, I have limited income currently, so this is a pipe dream build currently. But...

Questions about Watercooling and OCing my next rig.

Well I currently have a few cougar fans, as I liked their aesthetic, as well as they got consistently good reviews. I have 3 of these http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835553005 and the 4 pack of these http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835553009 . Would...

Questions about Watercooling and OCing my next rig.

Honestly the option of keeping the radiators housed in a separate box from the rest of the computer hadn't even crossed my mind. I still like the idea of keeping everything together in a single case though. I really did like the video from LinusTechTips, I actually had just subscribed to them...
