Review Asus ROG Swift PG27AQDP OLED 480 Hz gaming monitor review: Raising the bar

Can TomsHardware please include this in all their monitor reviews: How good is the motion clarity compared to CRTs for running older games that only work at 60Hz? I'm asking because I've heard of only 1 monitor that covers this (ViewSonic XG2431) which got a lot of praise from BlurBusters but...

News Idle Windows XP and 2000 machines get infected with viruses within minutes of being exposed online — legacy OSes compromised by just connecting to...

Is the headline trying to imply that Win10 could connect to the internet any more safely without a firewall? I've always used these with no issues: ZoneAlarm on XP, Windows10FireWallControl on Win7, and SimpleWall on Win10. No need for resource hogging anti-viruses with "real time" scanning.

RTX 4070 vs RX 7900 GRE faceoff: Which mainstream graphics card is better?

I can't even fathom the interest & market demand even if the cards were cheaper and truly "mainstream". None of the benchmarked games are even good or reviewed well, except Minecraft (a meme at this point). I don't understand how the PC gaming market is still alive with such poor service instead...

News Windows update renames every installed printer HP LaserJet Ultra M106, changes icons, and forces install of HP Smart app

Try this: 1. Install a firewall like SimpleWall, block Windows' updates & any other online Windows processes. 2. Backup a C drive image (Acronis ... etc.). 3. Compatibility: If some future program/game won't run, find out what specific Windows updates it needs and try to install them manually...

The five best Nvidia GPUs of all time: Looking back at over 20 years of Nvidia history

Is 8800 GTX listed for clickbaiting? The GT version cost less, needed 1x6pin connecter, had single-slot models and performed within 10% of GTX.

News Windows Paint Gets Layers, Transparency, and Auto Background Removal

MS Paint was always too-little, too-late. Stumbling upon Jasc PSP for opening Mechwarrior-2 screenshot files was one of the good programs that have made computing enjoyable for me. Go to oldversion.com and use/reinstall Paint Shop Pro 6 or 7 trials as long as you like (newer & Corel versions...

News New GPU Power Connector Eliminates Cables, Delivers More Than 600W

Why don't 75+ watt GPUs simply come with an external power adapter that plugs into your wall, like a laptop power-brick? This should help the GPU makers expand their market to customers who want to upgrade old Optiplex or other branded mini tower PCs with a single-fan GPU that still needs over 75W.

News Nvidia ACE Brings AI to Game Characters, Allows Lifelike Conversations

If the AI learns from scouring the internet: PC: "ok, I'll go and see this drug lord" NPC: "wait, PC. You must see the terminal by door for a better ship before you go. Try something at StarCitizen.Nvidia.DLC. Now is not the time to be cheap! You can get 1950coins for discount in the next 5...

News How to Disable Windows Web Search and Speed Up Your PC

I'd really appreciate a way to completely block Windows from the net, and still use FireFox & Chrome. I've been using Windows7 like this. I manually updated it to a point where it'll run the programs I need, and then permanently disabled Windows updates, firewall, tasks ... etc. I use a 3rd...

News How to Fix a Windows Blue Screen of Death (BSOD)

I've never seen ANY Windows self-troubleshooting fix ANY issue: network, compatibility, sound/mic, dll errors ... etc. Maybe the old Win98 scandisk fixing file system errors would count? When you see a BSOD, you give it the one finger salute, right on the power button.

News RTX 4090 Gets Just 16 FPS in Cyberpunk 2077 RT Overdrive Preview

"Overdrive is the new Crysis" Except that Crysis 1 was a fun game, at least until the aliens showed up. Enough so to get the highest score on PCGamer. Cyberpunk is not. Would be more apt to say "Overdrive is the new PhysX or Directx-10", i.e. "not worth ANY performance hit, so just turn it off".

News Latest Windows 11 Up May Slow SSD Performance

I can't see MS improving their behaviour until they lose a big class action lawsuit for not providing options for: disabling auto/forced updates, on all Windows editions. manually installing/uninstalling individual updates, with clear & specific documentation on what each update is for. I...

News These Blu-Ray Discs Are Guaranteed to Last 100 Years

I like DVDs because they are read-only and that's security for me. I don't see any USB drives that can be switched into a "read-only" mode at the physical-level like we used to do with the old 3.5" floppies. I've backed-up all my games & patches & mods (& no-cd cracks, for games that I own legit...
