No, I missed rebuilding the search index, I'll do that now.
checking programs through clean boot is going to take some time, as the issue doesn't manifest until after 2 or 3 days of use. if it doesn't occur I'll try re-enabling half and seeing what I can find, and narrow it down from there.
I'll try a clean install of the video drivers as well. And yeah, I'm somewhat familiar with what a clean boot does, I've never tried one before myself. I was mostly saying I'll have to stay in a clean boot environment for several days, as it takes 2-3 days before the issue appears.

Right, I've tried updating GPU drivers previously, or swapping out GPUs entirely, to no avail, but seems to make the most sense since it's a graphical bug.
I just hopped back in from a chkdsk /f reboot, so will try this next. Unfortunately due to the given nature of the issue, it's gonna be a...

Swapped to an old GPU, which fixed other issues, but not this one it seems.
Swapping to light theme also did not work.
still puzzled as malware scans all come up clean.
After a while, a white bar appears covering the windows file path and preventing the file path from being interacted with, as well as sluggish load times/crashing of the file explorer itself.
The problem is usually fixed by a system reboot, but I'd like to get to the bottom of why this is...
