Sorry I worded wrong the machine works,It just wont work with the adapter and cpu. so you are absolutely right that BIOS would only be the problem if new hardware would not work.

upgradeware p478 socket 423 to 478 adaptor. There is an article on here about the powerleap,pretty much the same. It is bios,I've done this already with a dell dimension 8100,they just happened to have a bios with 400mhz northwood support.

They do have a version 2002-12-31 The one from hp is 11.1.01???????? The esupport guy said it has the cpu steppings,but dunno.

Hello I have an hp pavillion 7960 with a wmt-lx sonic mobo I have an upgradeware p478 with a 2.6 ghz northwood, And just cant seem to get it to work. I am running pc800 rambus and am running bios 2.06. I have the voltage dip set at what the processor calls for. Anyone have any Idea? I'm stuck...

It really doesnt seem to get any hotter or cooler going higher up you just eventually get artifacts with it higher than about 845 core and 720 memory. It runs 42c at 800/700 and jumps to 56c as soon as you move it up even a couple mhz.

yeah I got it 2.06. I wish someone would make one a beta even.

That's what I set it at. It just spins up all the fans and no bios screen.

Just thought Id post that I've finally oc'd the Visiontek HD2600xt AGP. So far just XP. Using latest visiontek drivers,and Ati Tray Tools 1.6.9.1472. So far only stable at 837 core and 711 memory. But very nice performance boost. The main thing that really was the problem with this card was how...
