Question Help needed: Samsung can't update 860 EVO firmware

Samsung or MS basic SATA (Windows 7 dated) drivers first, else firmare and Trim can be blocked, same applies to Crucial and probably most, if not all, other brands. Should be listed on Samsung's drivers or downloads pages. Windows drivers can be changed/installed via Device Manager.

    Question i5-1335U vs i5-13420H

U is usually cheaper, not usually in direct competition with H, cost differential/performance is too great. If the CPU runs faster, it drives the GPU faster, too (similar with RAM). Given that the PCIe 5 specs allow greater throughput as well, there's no doubt in my mind that the H would run...

Question Help needed: Samsung can't update 860 EVO firmware

Try installing the Samsung SATA drivers, without them (or basic MS SATA drivers), it won't be able to update the firmware or activate TRIM.

    Question i5-1335U vs i5-13420H

Simple terms: U = basic, slow, (underpowered). H = full-fat but heavier on battery. You can 'de-tune' it when you don't need the extra speed/heat. PCIe 5 enables most internal components to work faster, maybe also more efficiently, than PCIe 4. (thus the extra speed over the U seen in some...

    Question CPU hitting 95C - - - cooling fan upgrade ?

Reversing the fan might make a difference, very easy to do (and easy to get it the wrong way around during a big clean/rebuild) and it then exhausts the hot air which may give lower temps.

    Question CPU hitting 95C - - - cooling fan upgrade ?

First thing I'd check would be to reverse the case fan to see if it's fitted correctly, could make a difference. Unsure of the layout of that model but there may also be an alt. fan position.

Question Can too many "handles" cause poor PC performance ?

Ah, then the (some/all?) excess Handles will have dropped as Explorer (at least) will have kept tabs open on all of that data until the job's finished. I suspect a much more reasonable number of entries once completed, it'd be useful to see your stats once completed and again after a reboot.

Question Can too many "handles" cause poor PC performance ?

That looks like a huge number of Handles for a relatively weak CPU and yes, it will cause slowdowns. Worked on an HP once where it was crippled by HP's own 'utility' slothware adding #34k Handles on it's own -uninstalled those and the PC came to life again. In Task Manager > View > Select...

Look in Reliability Monitor at the time you were forced to reboot, there's very likely to be a Bug Check 0x116: VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE recorded.

Question I Don't See the Point of Malwarebytes Anymore

Malwarebytes is not an antivirus, it doesn't scan for viruses - there are plenty of alts that claim to do that, some do a pretty good job of it as well. W10/11 and their default settings, firewalls and security software are doing a much better job of keeping the lazy bad guys out than previous...
