I've posted a couple times regarding laptop motherboard repair. There are a few places that advertise this service near me but neither were able to follow through with their claims. Also, the reponses I've gotten from people here were rude and condescending. Are there any REAL tech experts here...

I'd hardly rate a line and a half of question as a tirade. I don't have a bad personal experience with a laptop. I spend a lot of time repairing them, though, and I read tons of posts on many different forums. There seems to me to be good reason for my question. And what's with the mumbo jumbo...

I put the 2.8 ghz celeron on a board in a working system and it booted right up!! I downloaded a cpu stress test program and let it run all night last night with no errors reported. I think that rules out the processor. Has anyone ever had luck with just cleaning off the old heat transfer...

Well, It doesn't look as though this subject has generated much interest, but I'm going ahead and finish up what I started. I read the manual and tore apart the machine. When I removed the 4 screws that hold the processor heat sink in place it did not come off right away. So I pried against it...
