News Intel proposes easily repairable and sustainable modular PC design for laptops and mini PCs

Back in 2007 I had a girlfriend whose roommate/landlord worked at Intel solely for standardizing things such as this. Didn't happen until possibly now? Strange.

News User runs an AI model on an Xbox 360 — 3-core PowerPC with 512 MB memory handles an AI model based on llama2.c

We need to see simple AI LLM on older GPUs, particularly VLIW4/TESLA/GMA X3000. If it'll run on that it'll run on anything in an individuals possession today. These proof of concepts are awesome but I think that should be the target as they are all 18-20 years old now. Every computer with...

News MemryX launches $149 MX3 M.2 AI Accelerator Module capable of 24 TOPS compute power

25 TOPS is enough for text-response AI, even with slower memory. Sounds like someone has a horse in the race.

News Seven-year-old AMD gaming GPU continues to stick around — low-profile RX 550 arrives for SFF PCs

GCN GPUs still do impress in modern games. Before a DEEPCOOL AIO killed my RX 590 about a year ago by leaking on it I was gaming at 1440p/165hz without any issues paired with a Ryzen 2700. Just a few quick tweaks here and there an everything ran well. Today it feels overkill to have a 6800XT...

News Older systems now won't be able to update to newer versions of Windows due to reliance on an arcane CPU instruction

I have Windows 11 on an i5-4300u in a Thinkpad. It works perfectly fine. Once an instruction that is present on ix-5xxx is necessary then it wont work.

News Patriot demos Viper PV573 SSD: up to 14 GB/s with blower fan design

The fans don't have to be spinning very fast. The heatsink looks beefy enough as is, and just ensuring air isn't stagnant probably does enough.

News Ryzen CPU bug crashes PCs using Firewire devices — old school interface causes new school problems on Linux PCs, but a fix is on the way

I haven't seen a device with a firewire port in nearly a decade. Does this apply to firewire-usb adapters?

News Semiconductor industry proposes new 'Chipmaker's Visa' for H1B program — program would address extreme talent shortages in chipmaking industry

Complete nonsense. I went from being a navy electronics technician to a field engineer for many different types of semiconductor toolsets with almost no training whatsoever. Arguably the hardest one I learned was the one I did first, photolithography. Partner with a few large community...

News Nvidia CEO Jensen is worth $42 billion but still eats street food at street markets and visits LAN parties during overseas trips

This guy shouldn't be allowed into PC gaming circles at all. He is a traitor to the PC gaming community as a whole.

News Nvidia Says Native Resolution Gaming is Out, DLSS is Here to Stay

These bozos just regurgitate buzzwords and think they're making a point when in reality they're trying to justify their existence in the company with statements not based in reality. Your boss might like to hear it but we see it for what it is; complete nonsense.

News Valve's SteamOS 3.5 Previews VRR and HDR for Steam Deck

This could have supported VRR from the beginning and didn't? That should have been a day one feature with such an anemic chipset. I probably would have purchased one instead of an ultrabook gaming laptop. Games would have felt a lot smoother.

News GPU Makers Slash Prices of GeForce RTX 4070 to $549

Still a tremendously bad value compared to the 6800XT/7800XT.
