    As a workaround, use the bootable Acronis TrueImage bootable CD/USB to go into the recovery environment. You'll no longer be in the Windows environment so Com Surrogate won't be an issue.

    16GB will be plenty for those tasks and more. Very few people actually need 32GB. It's a shame that the RAM is soldered and probably not upgradeable but that's sadly the way most slimline laptops are nowadays :disappointed:

    This review for the MSI Raider GE78 HX 14VIG says that the tested brightness was 463 nits. Anything over 300 is considered bright. The panels contrast of 1160:1 is good for an IPS screen.

    Quick Assist (that's built-into Windows 10 & 11) is an effective TeamViewer alternative. It doesn't have some of the fancy features but it should be more than adequate for helping your dad.
