Gaming Peripheral Apps, Ranked From Worst to Worst

I don't fully get that UNIVERSALLY BAD part either. I think it's a kind of "fashion": "Everybody does that, so why should we be different?" kind of thing. It's crazy of course, but the world is full of crazy things...

Gaming Peripheral Apps, Ranked From Worst to Worst

As a programmer, I can guess why it's like that. They're doing it completely the wrong way, and if I were to guess the reason, I think they're trying to cut costs by using the most modern tools and hiring inexperienced developers. But what they need to make a good software of this class is...

    Best Computer Monitors 2024

I'm curious to see how my Neo G7 will fare in the future. It started pretty well: no dead pixels, no scanlines, no flickering, looks like a perfect unit. But it's been less than a month.

News AMD Ryzen 7000 Burning Out: Root Cause Identified, EXPO and SoC Voltages to Blame

There is some good news on this. Asus apparently gave up and officially confirmed that warranty does cover EXPO/XMP/DOCP: https://press.asus.com/news/asus-bios-updates-and-warranty-coverage-for-asus-am5-platform-motherboards-with-ryzen-7000-series-processors/

News AMD Ryzen 7000 Burning Out: Root Cause Identified, EXPO and SoC Voltages to Blame

Enabling EXPO does yield substantial performance gains indeed. What they have missed completely is that you don't need to push VSOC that high just to make it stable! In fact, I actually managed to make it stable by bringing VSOC down from 1.3V to 1.25V. Currently running at 1.2V, works fine too...

News AMD Ryzen 7000 Burning Out: Root Cause Identified, EXPO and SoC Voltages to Blame

To be fair, it's not like they pushed the voltage to make their CPUs faster. They're perfectly running with the same performance at lower voltages, so it's more like a stupid design oversight.

News Ryzen Burnouts Force Asus to Add Overclock Warnings to EXPO Features

Well, yes, my wording was confusing. What I meant to say is that the SOC voltage is not directly specified by the EXPO profile. So when you buy a 1.4V kit of RAM, it doesn't mean that it automatically sets the SOC voltage to 1.4V. It's totally up to the motherboard to choose a SOC voltage if...

News Ryzen Burnouts Force Asus to Add Overclock Warnings to EXPO Features

Please note, however, that this issue is mostly about the SOC voltage, and it is not required by RAM in any way. It's just the motherboard manufacturers choosing some values they believe are safe and stable. And Asus decided to err on the higher side here. So at least both AMD and motherboard...

News Ryzen Burnouts Force Asus to Add Overclock Warnings to EXPO Features

I've been discussing this message on Reddit recently, and we've noticed in the discussion that nowhere it says anything about warranty. It's more along the lines of "not guaranteed to work" rather than "may void warranty". And there's a huge difference. One thing is being denied RMA if if EXPO...

News AMD Ryzen 7000 Burning Out: Root Cause Identified, EXPO and SoC Voltages to Blame

Interesting. I have issues with EXPO and sleep, so I only turn EXPO on if I'm going to play a game, which happens quite seldom. But I do use Eco mode, EXPO or not, so I'm never running at the thermal limits. In fact, I don't think I ever exceed 75C even at the highest load. And if the problem...

News Nvidia's RTX 4080 Tops Newegg's List of Best-Selling GPUs

This basically boils down to the fact that high refresh 4K RT gaming was pretty much nonexistent prior to the 4090. So it's not just performance uplift, that's an entry point into a new level of gaming. I personally would be happy with 27" 1440p gaming, and RT certainly does add a lot to...

News Nvidia's RTX 4080 Tops Newegg's List of Best-Selling GPUs

Seems to me this way too. Not that I mind, though. It's a commercial business, not a charity, so it's only fair for them to make as much out of it as possible. Although, playing DL2 at 4K now, I find it somewhat ridiculous that I only get about 90 FPS with DLSS Balanced. Something went wrong...

News Nvidia's RTX 4080 Tops Newegg's List of Best-Selling GPUs

That's actually the problem with the 4080. I was initially planning to use this for my brand new gaming build until the RTX 40 series actually launched. But when it did, I looked at the prices, said screw it and got the cheapest RTX 4090 I could find instead. As ridiculous as it sounds, it's...

News Nvidia's RTX 4080 Tops Newegg's List of Best-Selling GPUs

It reminds me of a conversation I once had with a shopkeeper when buying a motherboard. Shopkeeper: "Well, we've this nice mobo for $200, and it's very good. Of course, you could buy a top one for $300..." Me: "A top one? Your website lists a $500 mobo as one of the most popular ones."...

FreeSync vs. G-Sync 2020: Which Variable Refresh Tech Is Best Today?

Well, it's no big achievement that a fast monitor has no blur nor overshoot at max refresh rate. It's when it goes down things become difficult. No big deal for competitive gaming, I guess, but is a big deal for demanding AAA titles.
