    Modding a New Laptop

heh. not sure what laptops you work with. acers, sonys, HPs, Lenovos all have removable CPUs. i should know, i get to be the guy who comes to your house and replace the motherboard when they break :) just curious if the bios will support a move from an i3 to an E3 (I _think_ they're the same...

    Modding a New Laptop

Hello, is there a way/ability for a modern laptop with an i3 chip and dedicated graphics (nVidia or ATI) to swap it's 3rd-gen i3 chip with an Intel® Xeon® Processor E3-1220LV2 ? (basically go from a 35w chip to a 17w chip with the same speed/specs and no extra heat generated from the Intel...

    Gigabyte ep35-ds3r + 4gb Crucial = flaky windows?

well, i bought a 2x2GB OCZ kit with PC2-6400 sticks in it. wasn't looking for high performance or overclocking ability but these were on sale @ Microcenter with a $20 rebate, making them the least expensive. I'll cross my fingers and toes and see if they do the job weds. morning when i go out...

    Gigabyte ep35-ds3r + 4gb Crucial = flaky windows?

funny you should mention that... My x38-DQ6 had a lot of tweak issues on Mushkin DDR2-1066. but once i got the EPP set in everything was fine. i went from 2x1 with them to 2x4GB Ballistix DDR2-800 and everything was totally fine. maybe a few extra reboots. on the EP35, the board's settings are...

    Gigabyte ep35-ds3r + 4gb Crucial = flaky windows?

we had to do an emergency server build from scratch for a new client. Long story short we build them a system with the GA-EP35 board. 2gb crucial ram. worked fine with Win2k3SBS for the last year or more. they started having performance issues with some apps hitting the swap file after running...

    4300$ BUILD...NEED ADVICE

Moon; Good Job Trimming down your build costs, BUT, something you probably will have realized by now: a computer won't stay at the top for very long, let alone 4 years. My last build was in 03, and I just last month built a system (08) technically i went almost 5 full years without a "new"...

Custom computer problems. I am in need of some advise

get the Abit. I'd choose it first over almost any Asus board. see if they got a Gigabyte P35 board available. those ROCK. one option is if you must SLI, then get a eVGA 780i board. they're pretty expensive though so it may not be your cup of tea.

OK so I'm about to build my first system

Get a Seasonic :D they MAKE the PC P&C PSU, some of the better Antec Models, and Corsair's PSUs. I just picked up their M12-700HH Semi-Modular PSU. yes, it's expensive, but I was still impressed by it. johnnyguru.com said it was the cleanest PSU he's ever tested (almost 0 noise in the power all...

Building 1st system focus on audio recording

On-board sound increases latency because it utilizes more CPU resources to accomplish task. imagine your switching/mixing software competing with your audio capture. I would Recommend a bluegears, Yamaha pro, or X-Fi card, especially ones with break-out boxes or I/O plates for the computer...

System shuts down after 15 seconds.

did you connect the PCIe power to the video card? i had the EXACT SAME SYMPTOMS when i got my 3870X2 because the beast DEMANDED both PCIe plugs be inserted. It's a steel case? you may have a grounding issue on the back side. slip a sheet of paper in back there to be sure.

    Need Help with Tune-up

turning off the page file, defragging, then restoring the page file should actually help the most. I really like Perfect Disk personally. Unfortunately it's not freeware, but if you know how to do a good registry clean-up, usually you can reinstall when you need to :)...

Oi! Check out the New Rig!

yes, that sounds strange to me. I usually pop into the one in the Detroit area, as it's stock for all except the most recent items, and since thanksgiving, RAM, have been very nice. They seem to put alot of product through there as it seems like HOT items that they get alot of are cleared out...

    First Time Build-Please advise

If you have a Microcenter in your Area, you can land a Q6600 for $200 which will pwn for encoding, and resist new applications better down the road. I also recc. getting the Gigabyte GA-EP35C-DS3R. It's a little more expensive, but it won't lock you into DDR2 ram for the next 4 years (when DDR3...

    Q6600, 512mb 8800GTS build

I TOTALLY recommend the Seasonic PSU. they actually make most if not all the Corsair PSUs, PC Power & Cooling as well. I have their M12-700, which if you read it's review in JohnnyGuru, that it's quiet, efficient (if not the most efficient one he has a review on) and it delivers the cleanest...
