Went in and unplugged the power to the fan, found out it wasn't aligned properly, but having about 6 other fans I think I'm safe from overheating.

I'm not sure, I know it's a Thermaltake case, the fan in question is right under the CD drive, and it oddly enough as I stated before stop makes the noise after two restarts from the log in screen. (In the software, not pressing the hardware button.)

I'm not using a CD, so it's seems likely that it's the fan. How hard is it to replace a fan or simply remove it?

One of my fans near my CD drive started making this obnoxious grinding noise, so in a panic I shut it down, and when I rebooted it didn't make the noise anymore, and this went on for about a week, I'd boot up my computer, have to suffer through the grinding noise till I got to the login screen...
