    Not with a GUI . No . There is command line programs in Linux that fit the bill , but they are not exactly easy too use .

    Computers don't think like we do . A computer needs constant acknowledgment that a drive is there and able too be used . So , every few minutes, it ask your backup if it is alive . This makes it spin up and give basic data too your computer . It sucks , but it is best too unplug them entirely ...

    I spent over a thousand dollars across 4 different companies on hardrives . I was shocked at how many I wound up sending back . If the drive refuses a low level format and erase stress test, back in the box they go . It took me a couple months too get drives because I kept sending duds back .

    I find the higher capacity drives more prone too failure . Mine are 2 and 4 TB SSDs . I swore off hard drives personally .

    Moisture? Has the drive come into contact with Moisture? I have had drives do similar from being damaged by Moisture in the air over time . These days I store mine in cases with color changing Moisture absorbing gell .

    I guess this would explain why I am not a gamer . I have had the same laptop for over 5 years now and never seen fit too do anything besides upgrade the RAM . I see no reason too spend that kind of money when my Linux computer does everything I need .

    The hub is a big no-no when installing operating systems . I am unable too explain why , but hubs will fail a install quick .

    A sudden shutoff is LEANING towards a power consumption issue . If you Installed a new GPU or something , it might require more voltage than your power supply can muster under load . Most stock power supplys can barely support the components they come with .
