Do 13th and 14th gen cpus go bad only if you overclock? Is this issue affecting mainly gamers and those who constantly have their cpu running at max? What about average home users who have a modest cpu load most of the time?

Agreed, I am not seeking RAID for RAID's sake, I really just want the Intel RST.

This computer is a store-built desktop, but we have a ASUS laptop at home that is configured out-of-the-box with Intel RST and RAID. It has a single SSD, but it is the NVMe type. I needed to switch it to AHCI when I wanted to install linux on it.

I don't really need it. I just wanted to see if I get some marginal benefit from RST. I have a single SSD SATA drive, which I want to use with Intel RST. My other drive is a HDD for data storage. I don't know which type of RAID is right in this situation, I guess that's really what I am asking...

If you increase the resolution, and then increase the scaling, aren't you cancelling out the benefit?

Makes perfect sense to me. I just lowered to 1080p and cranked the refresh rate up to 120. As a result, I decreased the scaling from 125% to 100%. Can't say at this point whether the display is clearer and crisper or not, but at least I am getting a higher refresh rate, which is what I paid for...

I installed the driver from the asus site. If I go down to 1080p, so that I can push up the refresh rate, am I gaining or losing, for my user case?

Maybe I didn't make my quest clear enough. My quest is for minimal eye strain, and my main use is text-oriented. That said, maybe a high refresh rate is not so important for me?
