    Looking for recommendations

Okay, one of the members of a fanfiction forum I'm on is looking for a notebook for university. Set criterea: good battery life, wireless networking, decently fast. I'm thinking something Centrino based, but I have no idea what. Money isn't an issue (she has $6500 in the bank), but my...

    In game AI - discussion

Actually, I wasn't too impressed by the enemy AI in NOLF 2. If the enemy has evidence that you are around, you can be hiding in a corner, perfectly still, and the enemies will immediatly turn to face you and start shooting once they enter the room you are in, without having to look around at...

    Strange freeze in some games

I'd have to agree with some of the other people who have replied and say that you should try to reinstall Windows 98. If you decide to reinstall, try putting a minimum of drivers and software on at first and test the games that have problems. Then start to add software and drivers back in so...

    Strange freeze in some games

I had a similar problem with a lot of Quake 3 based games on my old machine. Turned out that I had a slightly faulty motherboard that was corrupting some files over time. I'm not saying that's what you have, but it is a possibility. Oh, and how expensive are PCs in Austria?

    Sniper & Online Game Recommendations

I like Command and Conquer: Renegade for team FPS but it's hard to find good servers for it. But having to save up for equipment and comeing up with offensive and defensive strategies is awesome.

    LCDs and old games

You know, with a few hacks you can get most games to run at higher than their normal resolutions? BGII is like that, for one. In BG2, it's actual in the configuration, it just isn't a "supported" mode. Try it on your current monitor first, but it should work. C&C: Red Alert 2 also has a hack...

    2.8@3.2 going strong

Quick question: Is O/Cing a 2.4 P4B to 3.0GHZ at a 166 FSB a safe overclock? I need to go cheap, but I know a local store who warrenties O/C systems as long as they consider it a safe O/C. I wanted to get your opinion on whether I should try and ask them. BTW I would probably run a 865 board...

    TCPA/Palladium discussion

One guy point me to this document. Apparently the previous link has some misconceptions. http://www.research.ibm.com/gsal/tcpa/tcpa_rebuttal.pdf Now I really don't know what to think.

    TCPA/Palladium discussion

I've decided to create a forum about this. I'm hoping to unite users from a bunch of forums on this. http://www.chatarea.com/combatTCPApalladium (Sorry, I don't know how to do clickies) BTW does anyone have a suggestion for a better thread title?

    TCPA/Palladium discussion

Note: This first post may contain some inaccurate information, one of my later posts explains why. We've thrown tons of money at Microsoft to keep pumping out crappy software, now look what we'll probably be getting in the near future as a "present". www.cl.cam.ac.uk/~rja14/tcpa-faq.html...

    FPS Invert Mouse or not?

Lakedude: Doom didn't have mouselook, so it would have been duke.

    Cheating in online games thread

I don't think people cheat because they're so good at a game they get bored. If you always win without any effort it's going to get more boring, not more interesting. And those of you who don't think it's a problem need to try playing Command and Conquer Renegade against someone with a hacked...

    FPS Invert Mouse or not?

I like inverted. I lived off Descent, Terminal Velocity, and Tie Fighter when I was younger though...

    Gaming OS ?

XP has serious problems on my rig, but I think it might be my motherboard. The problems sometimes occur under 98 as well, but get way worse if you install recent Via 4 in 1s. I think XP probably has a newer VIA driver than 98, which doesn't work properly with my (POS) motherboard. I'm pretty...

    New LAN Party Game?

Descent: Freespace had nothing to do with decent except for some members of the development team. Descent 1 and 2 basically involved flying a fighter through mines on various planets to eradicate an alien computer virus that was taking over mining robots. Generally, you had to blow up the...
