News Ebuyer reportedly closing its doors — staff at UK’s second biggest PC retailer sent home early, company sued for liquidation

I also have used them since the early 2000s, and apart from anything else it is a shame if there is even less choice outside of Amazon. I have bought a few HDDs from them this year, one was packaged very well and the other really not so much so I didn't plan to buy HDDs from them again - but I...

Question ASRock B550M Pro4 - good choice for DIY NAS build?

Question ASRock B550M Pro4 - good choice for DIY NAS build?

Thanks! I actually have it from a former build, I needed a case that was shallow due to my desk setup and that was the best option. I've moved on to a Torrent Compact now which supports full ATX but I stil love the TJ08-E. Thank you for this, some of those posts make me wonder if ECC will ever...

Question ASRock B550M Pro4 - good choice for DIY NAS build?

I'm planning to build a DIY NAS in a TJ08-E micro-ATX case with 4-5 SATA HDDs and a single NVMe SSD to boot from. After some research I've ordered a Ryzen 5 4650G PRO CPU which I believe is pretty power efficient and am looking for a micro-ATX (or smaller) motherboard to pair it with. I'd also...

[WTS] - Asus Maximus VII GENE bundle (UK only)

I'd like to pass on my old retired system consisting of an Asus Maximus Gene micro-ATX Z97 motherboard with an i7-4790k and 32GB Crucial Balistix DDR3. Will go into the original motherboard box. I don't like eBay these days so don't want to try and auction it and I'm not really looking for...

Best Wireless Mouse: Premium Gaming and Productivity Mice

I'm not a gamer but I've used a Logitech G Pro Wireless for years now and it was only when I went back to using a standard productivity mouse that I realised how much better the GPW was at the pixel-perfect accuracy stuff and I felt like (even though I'm not a gamer) I would likely stick to...

    Question Mouse advice

Interesting, thanks - I have read that later versions from around 2021 or 2022 changed to a different Omron switch (20M instead of 50M) which may have made some improvement so I guess I could look for a new or lightly used G Pro Wireless in the hope that the newer switches would last even longer...

    Question Mouse advice

Thanks, I thought that might be the case! I guess I need to choose whether to send it off or dig out the soldering iron and try myself. In terms of which switches to swap in, the guides I've seen talk about Kailh GM 4 Reds - I wouldn't mind something that was a little harder to click TBH. When I...

In case it is a helpful example I'm using an APC Back-UPS RS 900MI which is 900VA / 540W and I have the following plugged into it: Desktop PC with Ryzen 5950X & 4070 Ti (1000W PSU) LG OLED monitor Netgear Readynas 202 Zyxel 2.5gb network switch When I'm just browsing my APC tells me I am using...

    Question Mouse advice

Hi all, I'd really appreciate some advice on what to do next for a mouse. I used to have a basic HP 5-button wired mouse (BR376AA) which suited me fine and I liked having buttons on both sides (like the old MS Intellimouse) - I don't use a mouse for gaming (beyond point-and-click). I fancied...

News Firefox user loses 7,470 opened tabs saved over two years after they can’t restore browsing session

I have 4-5 tabs I keep open all of the time and I update as normal, Firefox is set to auto-restore the session when it restarts. I assumed that was the case with this story also, and they got lost when it failed to restore eventually. I'd be impressed if Firefox was running for 2+ years with...

News Microsoft KB5034441 Windows 10 security patch for BitLocker bypass is leading to errors and has a complicated fix

Luckily for me this was just a minor annoyance that the patch kept failing, I found a good guide on Ask Woody and used the MS tool linked from www.blockapatch.com to hide the update as I don't use BitLocker. Sorry for those being properly impacted, do hope a solution comes soon.

News Microsoft to offer Windows 10 subscription plan for customers who want to keep getting updates after October 2025 — for both businesses and individ...

I'm guessing this would need me to sign-in to Windows 10 with an MS account? Something I have always avoided and it would be typical of MS to use something like this to force people to sign-in. I suppose it could be argued that it is the simplest way to achieve it, but still - not for me!

Question Any advice for cigarette smell on used Meshify 2 Compact?

Thanks - I actually have a detailing brush that I bought for doing wheels but haven't used it yet so that is a great idea!

Question Any advice for cigarette smell on used Meshify 2 Compact?

I just bought a Meshify 2 Compact from eBay and didn't consider the fact that it did not mention it was from a smoke-free home... it smells of cigarettes. Kind of weird because it is clearly barely used at all, I'd say it is basically as-new apart from the smell. I'm not really sure what is...
