Destinguishing between RAM vs memory controller errors

Update: After about 13 passes, test ten failed again. I decided to buy new RAM because I had tried a lot of different RAM timings and frequencies without it solving the problem. I'll try to RMA the RAM that isn't working since it has a lifetime warranty. The new RAM is working well, so I don't...

Destinguishing between RAM vs memory controller errors

Okay, I tried 1600mhz 20-20-20-45 @1.35 and it still had errors. I decided to try this afterwards: Freq 1733 Voltage 1.35 tCL 13 tRCD 13 tRP 13 tRAS 30 tRFC 243 tRRD_L 5 tRRD_S 4 tFAW 20 It's basically the JEDEC 3 profile with a slightly lower frequency and higher voltage. It's gone through 8...

Destinguishing between RAM vs memory controller errors

I tried using the JEDEC #2 with the higher voltage. It was 15-15-15-35 at 2133MHz. Then I moved the voltage up to 1.35V like you said. It managed to make it through 4 passes without any errors. I may try and test that again to see if it's actually more stable or if I just got lucky. If that...

Destinguishing between RAM vs memory controller errors

    1. frequency at 1600MHz with 18-18-18-41 @1.2V failed 2. frequency at 1866MHz with 18-18-18-41 @1.35V failed They're all failing about the same. The tests have 0 errors until about 2nd or 3rd pass where after one of the pauses there will be between 600 and 1700 errors.

Destinguishing between RAM vs memory controller errors

I'll try that next. I put the frequency at 1600 this time with the same timings as last time. I think I'll start just doing test #10 since that's all that seems to be failling.

Destinguishing between RAM vs memory controller errors

Failed at test 10 second pass again with 1612 errors. I can try moving the frequency much lower. I just don't want to move it way lower than it was designed for because I feel like that might also create an error prone situation. I'm used to RAM with a JEDEC timing/frequency that's pretty much...

Destinguishing between RAM vs memory controller errors

I was using the XMP settings 16-16-16-39 at 2400MHz Oh, and I'm just using one module. I'm currently running memtest86 with the 4 common timing numbers increased by 2 (18-18-18-41) then the frequency reduced one level. I'll let you know how that goes once it finishes in 30 minutes or until...

Destinguishing between RAM vs memory controller errors

I can't boot into windows because it got corrupted during the reinstall. Is the CPU-z information valuable enough to attempt another reinstall from my backup flash drive? This is a link to the RAM kit: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820225077

Destinguishing between RAM vs memory controller errors

I tried going to the jedec settings rather than XMP already, but the only difference was tFAW which was two lower on the JEDEC. I'll try increasing the 4 common timing numbers and reducing frequency. Are there any other RAM timings that I should change?

Destinguishing between RAM vs memory controller errors

Everything within the *** is what I have currently done to troubleshoot the problem. Afterward is the more significant information *** My computer had frequent blue screens ranging between every 3 hours to every 30 minutes. After troubleshooting a few things I found that there were disk errors...

Yeah, don't partition things unless you have a very good specific reason. I hope you like your computer!

Getting a new computer built, got an estimate, need advice

I think you could upgrade to a GTX 1080ti for the same price if you save a little on the storage and go with less RAM. if you end up going with less RAM as mentioned by someone else, you'd save a lot since RAM prices are high right now. More RAM is only better if you actually need that much. If...

Getting a new computer built, got an estimate, need advice

That's interesting. I'm not really sure what OP should do with the drives. NVMe is faster than the SATA, but it's not the difference of going from an HDD to an SSD. If you're not interested in the technology of it, then the SATA drives are a better value. I think it's really going to depend on...

Getting a new computer built, got an estimate, need advice

I think larger SSD's are faster because they have more flash modules that can be accessed independently of each other. That's theoretical though, I'm sure there are limitations on the controllers that handle all the modules. I know with HDD's separating drives is very important, but I think it's...

Computer still not booting after updating bios

Are you sure that the newest BIOS is compatible with your CPU? I looked online and it says "2.Update to AGESA 1000a for new upcoming processors" on the changelog, but that's not very informative because it doesn't specify CPU's or anything. It might be worth sending ASUS and email to make sure...
