Optane + Seagate Barracuda Pro *OR* just get a second nVME SSD?

As brief as possible... The Facts: - Recently rebuilt system with an I7-8700 (non-K) and MSI B360I Gaming Pro MB (ITX). - Other specs are GTX 1080, Samsung 960 EVO nVME 250G SSD and 32G RAM. - This MSI board happens to have 2 M.2 slots, one of which supports Optane and RST. - I already...

    Watercooling in cold climate areas

We live in Wyoming, and my home office is located in - yes - the garage. Temperatures in this garage are great most of the year in terms of computer health (40-80 F probably 8 months out of the year), but there are 2-3 months during the winter when temps drop down into the 0-30 F range often...

Watercooling in extreme weather / wide temperature ranges

I am currently purchasing parts for a microATX as well as a mITX build. I already have an i5 4690K processor (as well as an i5 4590) and will be using the Hadron Air for the ITX build, and either an Aerocool DS Cube or Fractal Design Arc 2 Mini for the mATX build. I live in Wyoming, a place...

    Trident 2400/CL10 at 1.65 V with i5 4690K - does voltage matter?

I'm looking to pair my i5 4690K processor with GSkill Trident 2x8GB DDR3 2400 (CL10). PC Part Picker gives a warning stating that this memory runs at 1.65V at rated frequency which is above Intel's specs for the processor of ~ 1.60V. In what way will this be an issue? Or not?

Seagate Hybrid drive, or full SSD, in a Lenovo IdeaPad Z570?

Thanks for the info "LordConrad". Funny you mention that Samsung SSD - I actually have a 850 EVO 500GB SSD - new, in-box and untouched - sitting around waiting for a desktop/gaming build! (Got it on sale at Newegg for $204 a few weeks ago.) I guess I just didn't want to bust it out and try to...

Seagate Hybrid drive, or full SSD, in a Lenovo IdeaPad Z570?

I'm wondering about the utility of upgrading the stock HDD in my Lenovo IdeaPad laptop (Z570 1024AYU) to one of the Seagate SSHD "hybrid" drives. I bought the machine from Costco in early 2012 so it doesn't exactly match any of Lenovo's stock models at the time. Specs are very hard to find...

Where have all the mITX mainboards gone???

Hey all, looking to build a Hadron game machine and have been "holding out" on buying the mITX mainboard for it. My own indecision (i.e. waiting for the "perfect sale") may be my downfall at this point, as it appears that almost EVERY mITX board is disappearing from Newegg's inventory! I...

*REAL WORLD* difference between CAS10 and CAS9 (for gaming)

I recently bought a single stick of 8GB HyperX FURY DDR3 1866, CL10, 1.5V via a combo deal through Newegg. But it seems that in nearly all of Tom's System Builds he uses the GSkill (Ripjaws) memory, DDR3 2133 at 9,11,10,28 timings. Question is: Is there really a noticeable, real world...

Intel H81 vs Z87/97 for mini ITX build - Does it really matter?

Hello, I am currently putting together components for a mini ITX gaming build to go into an EVGA Hadron Air enclosure. I already have an I5 4590 processor and 8 GB of HyperX Fury DDR 3 RAM (x1). I plan on using a GTX 970 as the GPU (or maybe a GTX 960 if I chicken out on $$ at the last...

Intel Core i5 4590: How good a card can I get before processor bottleneck?

I am going to be building a (admittedly modest) game machine using an i5 4590 processor (already have) and probably an MSI Gaming Z87 MB. As I'm building in an EVGA Hadron Air case (miniITX), most of the Radeon cards are out due to length and power issues (267 mm max length and limited to 500 W...
