If there is a reset button on it try holding it down for 30 seconds. It should do a factory reset of your settings and set your password back to it's original default.

Install the program CCleaner. It is free and is a great program to use to clean up old files.

You can have Malwarebytes and an anti-virus. I said "EITHER" avast or AVG. As in, pick one or the other. But definitely keep malwarebytes to couple with your virus protection, as Malwarebytes sometimes detects a lot of malicious activity that AV's might miss.

Looks like a hardware issue to me. Try creating a MemTest86+ Disc and testing your memory, would be my guess.

Back up your files in the event it completely craps out on you. HP should have some diagnostic tests that you are able to run from the pre-boot menu to let you know if your hardware is failing. Run a hard drive test and a memory test as well, to see if it is indeed a hardware issue.
