[SOLVED] Are laptops in general picky about RAM timings?

Huh I too had a 5.4K HGST in there! What a snail. Works fine as a backup drive though. Forgot to mention how it all went. The system picked everything up just fine, dual ch. works nicely too.

[SOLVED] Are laptops in general picky about RAM timings?

^Strange, I only see mentions of RAM PnP in Kingston's marketing material. https://forums.tomshardware.com/threads/non-plug-and-play-memory.3429727/ Please don't think of this as a "callout". Is HyperX generally the top tier option? I always got baffled at how their fast DDR4 RAM has the...

[SOLVED] Are laptops in general picky about RAM timings?

Massive thank you everyone. 6 Euro difference between the CL11 and the two CL9 (more expensive) options. Oh, and the CL11s are sold separately but under the same SKU. I reckon there's a 99.9% chance they'll match right? (As if I were buying a kit). Yup, the manual doesn't go deep into this...

[SOLVED] Are laptops in general picky about RAM timings?

That's clear, thanks. Question is: I'm removing the factory stick. Do the timings of the new kit have to match the old stick? Or it depends on the laptop manufacturer? The old one was 1600Mhz 11-11-11 I'm choosing between 1 1600Mhz 11-11-11 variant and 2 1600Mhz 9-9-9 variants. All are 2x8GB...

[SOLVED] Are laptops in general picky about RAM timings?

Planning to swap a single Samsung DDR3L 1600 8GB stick (11-11-11-28 timings I think) in my Toshiba P50-A-13C laptop with a 2x8GB kit because a) I discovered recently that there ARE 2 slots on the board; b) I'm running out of RAM at times; c) who doesn't like dual-channel? So the first...

[SOLVED] External 2.5" HDD grinding on one machine and working impeccably on others, what gives?

Yup, it doesn't have any ports for a power brick. Just a 2.5" enclosure that runs off USB. Windows always recognises it as "ASMT 2115 USB Device" (probably to do with the controller on the adapter board inside that thing). It's a Deltaco MAP-HL43U3. Some HDDScan reports in the meantime...

Question What's wrong with my HDD?

That's a lot of replies all of a sudden :) Take note that if your HDD is already toast or approaching that status (which you can check with a S.M.A.R.T. reading program like CrystalDiskInfo, WD's own software -- I imagine it's the Data Lifeguard Diagnostic, or a surface test (Verify, Butterfly...

[SOLVED] External 2.5" HDD grinding on one machine and working impeccably on others, what gives?

Good part of day you're in the middle of dear Tom's Hardware forum member or a reader passing by :p, I've just run into a weird situation... not sure if I should call it an "issue", still. I hooked up my daily driver external HDD which hasn't given me trouble since Feb 2014 (knock on wood) to a...

[SOLVED] PSU with multiple weak 12V rails + 1 big single-connector boi (RTX 2060) = shutdown festival?

No problem and nothing rude in your answer, it's A-OK :) Thank you. Though I'd like to ask one more time (sorry if it's a bit too obnoxious): considering the possible fact that the Chieftec Proton and the Bequiet System Power 9 are both just a grey-label Corsair CX with another sticker and...

[SOLVED] PSU with multiple weak 12V rails + 1 big single-connector boi (RTX 2060) = shutdown festival?

Hi guys and gals, I've run into a dilemma advising on a PSU for someone's build. The guy is from Russia, and you've got to understand that we're choosing from the bottom of the bin. Forget your fancy tier lists, 9999W 80- Unobtainium Seasonics, etc. The way I see it, the bare minimum needed...
