Manufacturer is Askey - they already refuse to release modem driver saying they don't want to upset Compaq's O/S? In Device Manager it says PCI Simple Communication Device with the obligatory question mark, and it is reported as not being able to start.

Thanks for your help....someone from Compaq has actually contributed and supplied a possible driver for the modem...I'll let you know if it works! Good luck finding one!

I recently obtained a Presario 1600XL140 notebook with 98, and I want to go to Win2K. This notebook isn't one I would call a "consumer" item, more a business system. Compaq do not support Win2K on this product line!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The only thing I cannot get to work on my notebook is the modem...

Anyone know where I can get a driver for it? Compaq are absolutely useless, and do not support 2000 on this notebook.

Did you update the bios at any stage? It sounds as though you may have a faulty board/bios if it's hanging at that point....

Orb drives will be the death of me I think. Working as a tech in a wholesale business, and dealing with returns of these drives, I am disturbed by the lack of response and sluggish turn-around in regards to getting these drives replaced. Be prepared for a long wait if you need to return one that...
