    [SOLVED] Home automation recommendations ?

Yes. This is the part, which I hate about it, especially, I am happy to carry out the automation myself - minus electricals. If we go full wireless vs the premium brand like KXN and Laxone, are they worth the premium than the wireless mode like using Apple Home Kit? We can't get rid of the...

Back after a while! We are replacing the 40 years old windows and doors as the house has become colder and issues with them cannot be fixed. It’s time for a replacement. It is a detached property and we moved in Jan 2015. We have a Virgin business broadband, a Cisco switch connecting the...

I do not know where you live. Is it not possible to hire communications only address for a small monthly fee? For instance, small businesses hire addresses as a registered office. They can also receive all your communications. You go and collect them regularly. I know it is a hassle and costs. I...

I recommend that you take a look at the unifi and snb forums re-the dream machine pro, which seems to have stability issues. Ex: please see here.

Question Best practices and pointers for a firewall PC ?

After spending some time thinking and reading about these, I will not virtualise the router. I will stick a stand-alone PfSense or a subscribed Untangled router.

[SOLVED] Mini PCI-E Wifi card upgrade

Thx for your reply. That’s the doubt I also have. The good part it’s just a couple of quids. I have been searching a decent looking adaptor in vain. The safer alternative is an AC card, though it’s only bluetooth 4.0. 😊

    Question Be careful, people

Why replace something, if it is not broken? The 10 still has another 4+ years of support. I hope they will extend the support like they did in the case of 7! 😊

Question Best practices and pointers for a firewall PC ?

Many thanks for your reply. Residence please. 3 users normally, unless we have guests/friends come over. Devices: Leaving the wired ones, about 15 devices connect wirelessly at the moment. The number of wireless connected devices will go north, given the smart home plans. I fully agree...

[SOLVED] Which CPU is better the i5-760 or Xeon x3450

I am probably a little late to the party. I have a HP workstation sporting X5450. It's rock solid since 2008. It has 20GB Ram and we replaced the NVS 440 by FX1700 to run windows 10 Pro. My machine requires DDR2 ECC RAM, which is pretty expensive. If you are in the UK, please check bargainhardware
