No, not even the higher tier cards can handle MAX settings at 1080p in modern AAA titles. Very high settings certainly, but not max.

You can find a GTX 960 for about the same price. It is newer, better and will definitely support Dx12 fully.

80c under load is not "normal" for a Maxwell card, but it's nothing to worry about. If it starts exceeding high 80s, then start to worry. To lower Idle temps you can switch from maximum power to adaptive in Nvidia control panel.

First define "amazing high definition" is that 1440p? 2k? 4k?

A GTX 960 won't be able to handle anything higher than the standard 1080p... which is less than amazing. That's a mediocre build in general, you will be playing and editing just fine on standard 1080p definition. Anything higher just won't be very pleasant.
