You will need to see the MB support page to find out what bios works for a specific cpu

I am running the 990x on the X58 system... Z87 with 4770k is getting better benchmarks. I am in the process of upgrading to 4790k and a Z97 board. You can always sell either setup if the other is working better.

Did you check to see if the cpu is compatible with the bios thats on the MB? Sometime, you will need to update the bios to support a newer cpu since a lot of boards set on the shelve for a while.

MSI or ASUS... you get what you pay for...and with HP you pay for crap.

I would go with the i7 cpu, all around it will give you better bang for buck with what you are trying to do. The motherboard you have selected is fine, but you could go up to the z97 chipset for a few more bucks. What type of GPU will you be using?

I have installed several of the NZXT controllers, I have yet to be impressed. Its a lot easier to fine tune with the knobs.

run cpu and gpu z. Monitor the temps to see if you are over heating. I would suspect that the problem is from heat or the power supply failing under load, especially if you are not getting a BSOD before it happens.

do your research on artic silver. It's worth a few extra bucks to use it.

I agree, go for the larger drive. If you can get a few then RAID them. I have a stack of WD 1tb drives that I took out of new DVRs. They work well in RAID and have stable lifelines.
