If you pay the same price for 2gb ddr2 as the ssd I would not recommend it. Just buy the ssd for your next pc.

I think it's a motherboard problem. Maybe try this: 1) Shut down your PC. 2) Unplug the power cord. 3) Remove the CMOS battery from the motherboard 4) Walk away from the problem for at least 30 minutes. 5) When you return, reconnect battery and power cord. 6) Start as usual.

What is your BIOS version?

Downloading drivers won't change much if you can't even access internet inside of the BIOS. Did you plug your Ethernet cable from the modem directly to the pc? Also do you see any light flicker inside the Ethernet port in your motherboard?
