    how could anyone answer the question as to whether the disk is recoverable sight unseen. Try it and find out for yourself, if it isn't have them get a new drive.

    If it's a mainstream pre-built system like an HP or a Dell, it's not unusual that they have onboard graphics without a PCIe slot. It's one way the keep the costs down.

    The Gaming 7 motherboard just comes with more connectivity, the basic performance should be identical. If you think you need all those additional ports then get the 7, if not get the 5?

    if it shows in the device manager and disk management, then that probably means that you need to partition it and format it. You will not usually see a drive listed in windows explorer, right out of the box. You have to partition and format first.

    I built a similar system just a couple weeks ago and I decided to try the Coolermaster HAF XB EVO case. It's a bit of a departure from the standard mid or full tower case, it's more like a cube, but I have to tell you it was a pleasure to work with, and it's a very nice case. Check it out.

    I would think most motherboards with onboard 5.1 or 7.1 sound would work for you.
