If it is the dead battery, the laptop should turn on with the power plug connected in, irrespective of the battery. But, it starts only when it is powered on. Tried with different battery and different adapters. Result is same. :(

I have a linux machine. Even Linux just recognises, a drive unde /dev/sdb. But nautilus, gparted or fdisk don't find it. The disk utility shows the drive but gives no option to format edit or mount partitions. Dmesg command shows I/o error. Can i do anything with it?

Seatools doesn't detect the hdd. Diskpart clean doesn't work. And I have tried 12 ports in 3 windows machines and a Linux machines. Results are same.
