i HAD the same problem, for some reason overclocking the card slightly (with asus gpu tweak application my settings: 1208-gpu mhz 7100-memory 50% fan speed) helped me a wee bit, and keeping my resulution at 1280x720 at most during gaming and maxing out the rest of the settings, for most games...
