i tried the other PCIe slots but no effect so it may be the gpu, i removed the graphics card and let the pc run without the card via the board. It's crystal clear and no signs of the problem at all. So it is likely wrong with card/cords.

I started in safe mode a few times to see if it would do it, all three times it didn't. Also upon re-booting after the safe modes, it appears that it isn't do it in normal mode either. Is it possible that after a long period of being shut off (7+ Hours) that it would do the tabbing out issue...

I've looked around and found that other people with 7870s are experiencing the same thing, so it may be because of the card itself. Edit: This is 100% caused by the card, when the new card was installed it immediately stopped crashing.

I upgraded the CPU and it runs fine now, so i suspect it was the CPU trying to keep up with the game :)
