Suspicious Readings from Task Manager While Running Prime95 on an Intel Core i7-870

Well, I'm using a Fractal Design Focus G Mini as my PC case, so the top of the top-most front fan is where the CPU cooler's fans' centers are, so in short, no, no "direct" airflow is reaching the top portion of the motherboard. Maybe if I were to install another fan right above the motherboard...

Suspicious Readings from Task Manager While Running Prime95 on an Intel Core i7-870

Okay, an update. I decided to look around in the BIOS, and I tried disabling the "CPU TM Function." It turns out, by doing this, CPU usage stays a rock-solid 100% @ 3.2GHz in Prime95's Small FFTs torture test during the 32 minutes I ran the test. Okay, that's something. To see if it was a VRM...

Suspicious Readings from Task Manager While Running Prime95 on an Intel Core i7-870

Bub, HWMonitor showed the same thing as HWInfo did. From the looks of it, HWMonitor is like a simplified version of HWInfo.

Suspicious Readings from Task Manager While Running Prime95 on an Intel Core i7-870

Thank you CaptainCretin for the suggestion of HWMonitor. I'll check it out. However, I doubt my heatsink capabilities are lacking. The heatsink is recommended up to 210W, and supports a max TDP of 320W. Would a small boost clock of say around 200-300 Mhz from the CPU's base clock of 2.93GHz...

Suspicious Readings from Task Manager While Running Prime95 on an Intel Core i7-870

I seriously doubt that is the case. See for yourself.

Suspicious Readings from Task Manager While Running Prime95 on an Intel Core i7-870

Hello Tom's Hardware members. I am having quite a time overclocking my retro/modern gaming PC's CPU (which is also my main PC, 'cause it is the most powerful PC I own), and I was wondering if you could help me out. As courtesy, here's a quick list of it's specs: ■ Intel Core i7-870, cooled by...

What Are the Max Overclocks Possible for Intel Core i7-860's and -870's without Fiddling with Voltages?

Wait, I just found this article that details someone's experience overclocking the i7-870 ( https://techgage.com/article/overclocking_intels_core_i5-750_i7-870/3/ ). It was just what I was looking for! In the article, they said that they were able to hit 3.72GHz with Turbo at stock voltages, so...

What Are the Max Overclocks Possible for Intel Core i7-860's and -870's without Fiddling with Voltages?

Bummer. :\ Well, I'll guess I'll have to find out for myself I guess. Thanks any how!

What Are the Max Overclocks Possible for Intel Core i7-860's and -870's without Fiddling with Voltages?

*sigh* Yes, you wouldn't know unless you try. But, I guess what I am asking for is A) has anybody overclocked these CPUs and in your experience what was the highest you could go without having to touch voltages, and B) is there not some article like this (...

What Are the Max Overclocks Possible for Intel Core i7-860's and -870's without Fiddling with Voltages?

Well then, I have some explaining to do. First of all: William. I already know this. A good point for those who don't know. But, this does not answer my question. I believe you are getting the Core 2 Duo and previous Intel CPU generations confused with the Core i series. There is no "FSB"...

What Are the Max Overclocks Possible for Intel Core i7-860's and -870's without Fiddling with Voltages?

Hello Tom's Hardware members! I have hopefully a simple question. To begin with, I was thinking of upgrading my i5-750 to an i7 processor, because of the small/medium boost in performance it would offer. Currently, I have my i5-750 overclocked to 3.5GHz (20x multiplier, 175 BCLK) on my Asus...

Quick - No Time to Explain: Which Is Better - a Dual-Fan GPU with One Fan Blocked by a Soundcard, or a Blower-style GPU?

The (newly-won) Nvidia GeForce GTX 770 is for my Windows XP/10 Retro/Modern Gaming Machine. Specs of the machine now (until I get that card) are as follows: ■ Intel Core i5-750 overclocked to 3.5GHz (20x multiplier, 175 BCLK, auto voltages) ■ Asus P7H55-M Motherboard ■ 8GB G.Skills Sniper DDR3...

F*** yeah! I went with your guy's suggestions. Keepin' it dual-fan! Now, to explain...
