Confused about SSD types. Which is the fastest type I can get for my mobo

Hello, I have the Gigabyte GA-880GA-UD3H Motherboard (with Phenom II x4 965). With all the different types of SSD's out there, it is not very clear to me which SSD type would be the fastest that does work. I am aware that I will not be able to run NVMe. But there are also PCIe 2.0 AHCI cards...

More virtual memory used than physical, even though enough RAM.

Hello, I have 12gb ram, and I thought the computer would switch to virtual memory mainly if my RAM is getting near full. But right now I am using 2.5Gb of my ram, but 3.3Gb virtual memory! Why? Why doesn't it just put it on the Ram? Is the stuff that goes onto virtual memory not used/changed a...

Computer not booting after Inserting new ram

Either it works or it doesn't. If it does work you have more memory (obviously). No disadvantages really. They will be running on single channel, but it would be single channel too, if there was just one stick. There are disadvantages to having 2x the same stick, as they would work in dual...

Computer not booting after Inserting new ram

I'm surprised you got to see the desktop to be honest :D It might work, it might not, there is no guarantee it will work or not, but you can always try. And if they don't work together, you can always buy the same ram you just bought again to get 2x4gb

Computer not booting after Inserting new ram

Ah ok, I see. I just checked on the gigabyte website, and your motherboard does infact not support 8gb ram sticks. It says "2 x 1.5V DDR3 DIMM sockets supporting up to 8 GB of system memory" what is meant by this is that by running TWO ram sticks the maximum memory possible on the mainboard is...

Computer not booting after Inserting new ram

Don't buy new memory yet. Your CPU does not support 1600MHz memory. You can go into the BIOS, and manually set the new memory to 1333MHz: Boot up your PC, and press Del on your keyboard during post. (so just repeatedly press the Del button on your keyboard until you are in the BIOS.) Then...

Installed new ram but no display

Sounds very good. Did you have to manually change it to 1333 or was it set automatically?

Z68 MB. Is there a MEM Test Button on MB?

Download MemTest86. It is a program to test memory. (You will have to create a bootable usb, or cd)(follow their instructions). Then test one stick at a time. Also keep in mind your motherboard has 3 years warranty, in case it is actually faulty.

Installed new ram but no display

One last thing is this: try plugging in both the new and the old stick. Some ram does play well together, and the reason this would fix your problem is that when you have two different frequency sticks installed, the motherboard will run both at the lowest common speed, which would be 1333MHz...

Installed new ram but no display

Also, have you tried the other memory slot? And if you have a graphics card try plugging it into the motherboard directly. Also, what kind of PSU do you have, and make sure its all plugged in correctly. Apart from that, yeah it looks like the stick is not working properly..
