What about the radiator? Are all it's screws in tight?

What game are you playing? My guess is, as you said, the CPU. But usually it just fries if it gets to hot. It could also be the RAM but that shouldn't shut it down... Basically, what games does it shut down on while playing. You should completely rule the PSU out as 1000 watts should be more...

Yes. It will run, but don't be doing much else. It may get dangerously close to frying, so maybe get some better cooling.
