News Trump administration reportedly mulling a 10% stake in Intel — CHIPS Act funding could be reworked into the purchase amount

I'm very well aware of how much capacity Intel has and how many products they sell. I'm not sure why you'd bring up nvidia given that most of their products are huge and their wafer buy count is gigantic. Also not sure why you're bringing up video cards which are all made by TSMC. Do you think...

News Trump administration reportedly mulling a 10% stake in Intel — CHIPS Act funding could be reworked into the purchase amount

This is not viable for Intel's fabs and likely won't be for at least 2 more years due to proprietary nodes. Even if this was done GloFo is a perfect example of what would likely happen: optimize for the currently capable nodes while cutting as much as possible and killing future node investment...

News Trump administration reportedly mulling a 10% stake in Intel — CHIPS Act funding could be reworked into the purchase amount

Which of those has fabs again? Oh yeah... none of them. It's not about architecture as those tend to be part of the bid for making the products in the first place. It's about the manufacturing which legally has to be on US soil. That leaves one US owned manufacturer for leading edge production...

Question RTX 5060 or RX 9060 XT with Ultra 7 265K processor for video editing ?

Right now I'd say nvidia's encoders are still probably better than AMD's but it's closer than prior generations. If you plan on going above 1080p video you'll likely need more than 8GB VRAM. 32GB DRAM may be sufficient today, but again can be an issue down the road, but if you're sticking with...

    Question RTX 3080 upgrade ?

I wouldn't be certain that video card will let you get to 165Hz. Battlefield 6 seems to be fairly CPU limited. HUB did some limited CPU testing and in several instances a 9700X and 265K were unable to sustain 165 FPS with a 5090. You'd be more likely to get 165 FPS+ with the 3080 and a faster...

    Question CPU bottleneck ?

While I wouldn't expect great performance from that CPU it does seem low. It'd be worth checking to see what the overall CPU usage looks like in the game along with clock speeds. There is some overhead in nvidia drivers which will cause some performance loss, but I'd still expect >60 FPS on that...

News U.S. gov't mulls taking a stake in Intel to speed up Ohio campus fab build out

It's a third more power consumption so even if the number doesn't seem large that isn't a "little" difference. Intel 7 is certainly worse than N5 by a decent margin in terms of efficiency and nobody should really think otherwise.

    I paired a cheap $125 PSU with a $3,000 RTX 5090 — nothing melted, even when pulling 1044 watts

That is the ATX specification document period there aren't separate ones. If you didn't already know you could have read it to see nothing has changed since the launch of ATX 3.0 regarding power guidance.

Intel's ATX guidance is 1200W for PCIe cards pulling 600W. https://edc.intel.com/content/www/us/en/design/ipla/software-development-platforms/client/platforms/alder-lake-desktop/atx-version-3-0-multi-rail-desktop-platform-power-supply-design-guide/2.1/pcie-add-in-card-and-psu-power-budgets/

News U.S. gov't mulls taking a stake in Intel to speed up Ohio campus fab build out

This might be true of some reviewers, but it's still true Intel is using a lot more power for the same performance: https://www.techpowerup.com/review/intel-core-i9-14900k/22.html Peak power consumption isn't significantly worse (RPL v Zen 4), but the in between definitely is. It's one of the...

News I'm building a media server out of leftover PC parts and a 3D printed case

If you're looking for a simple solution something from QNAP or TerraMaster (Synology used to be on this list, but have been making some anti-customer moves lately) could be an option. I wouldn't use a pre-built device if it was going to be internet facing, but for internal they can be a great...

    I paired a cheap $125 PSU with a $3,000 RTX 5090 — nothing melted, even when pulling 1044 watts

Reading comprehension isn't your strong suit tonight I see so here I'll do it for you (re: 5V): OCP is supposed to be lower on high temps than on normal so it's configured incorrectly which is an automatic fail whether relevant or not (143% vs 149.5% which is basically the opposite of how the...

Cover for what? It doesn't seem like you know what you're talking about here and if that's the case you probably shouldn't be making such suggestions. The OCP level is a pass/fail for his recommended status on PSUs reviews that's it. Please tell me in your system what you have that can pull...

Aris never says inadequate protection features because that's false. The 5V and 3.3V OCP are set higher than normal which automatically removes it from recommended per his policy. From the Tom's review of the 1050W Century II:

I don't disagree at all, but it has clearly worked at what it's intended for. Tom's is always towards the top, if not the top, of searches when they have a piece about what you're searching for. I'd certainly prefer it to change as I've disliked sensationalism in headlines for decades. It's...
