After hours of research I found the solution to the problem myself. The installed drivers from Dell the Laptop comes with are terrible with some older routers. I installed a driver update from Lenovo and it fixed the issue, my wireless connection is now much faster and extremely stable. Hurray...

I've just purchased a new Alienware 14 laptop running Windows 7 with a Broadcom 802.11ac card, and when I connect via wifi, the connection is erratic and disconnects/reconnects about once every 10~15 minutes... The other laptops in the house work just fine, and have a very steady connection...
