Might not be a problem with the CPU. The temperatures seem to stay below 70C if I turn off turbo-core (my BIOS has it on by default). Then again turbo core is a standard feature, so I'm not really sure that's it is the root of everything.

I replaced re-applied the thermal paste - Minor difference in temperatures. So I have asked for a CPU replacement. Will keep you posted as to how the new one turns out.

Just an update - Was playing Guild wars 2 for an hour or so: Average CPU temperature: 75 Max CPU temperature: 81 Steady CPU usage: 35% Steady Core Frequency Multiplier: 100% + Is this really normal? Can someone please explain it to me? Thanks in advance.

I recently got a FX-6300 + R9-270x combo, however my CPU seems to reach peak temparatures too easily. I didn't have any recent games so I tried out Oblivion and Guild Wars 2 - Both of them seemed to push the limit and keep the CPU near 70C. I understand that 70C is the absolute limit for FX-6300...

Since the motherboard doesn't seem to be too good, can you guys recommend one - Generally which chipset / series should I base my motherboard on? @mlga91 - Even the ASRock 970 Extreme is based on the 4 + 1 power phase. So I'm not sure how that's any better.

The newly launched Athlon X4 860K didn't even get a spot in the hierarchy charts. Personally I think it would have put up a good competition to the i3 4130 in the price to performance segment.
