Yes, Windows 8 is stable, and windows 8.1 is even more stable. BUT - Only when you have windows 8.1 from the beginning. Updating windows 8 to 8.1 via store makes OS slow and unstable (corrupted drivers and registry errors) - so buy a new computer already with windows 8.1 or buy windows 8.1 box...
