I think it is an old article (from the 128 mb/stick SDRAM era). The number of RAM sticks is what is mainly responsible for power consumption, not the amount. Imagine 2 gigs using 16*7 watt, you'd have to use a huge fan to cool the RAM.

I think that it is very unlikely the 5900 wil outperform the 6800 with 400 MHz CPU speed difference. Are you by any chance referring to half life 2? In this game the 5900 will go into dx8 mode, and yes, it will run smoothly. Might also do that in other games.

For now the FX series is better but in a year the X2 series might be better in new games. It depends on the software developers. Still haven't heard much about games supporting dual core, only about what would be possible (seperate physics and graphics calculations etc).
