Build Advice New long-term gaming build for 1500$

On another note, it seems that I would be able to get an RTX 4070 at almost the same price (about 570$) as the RX 7800 XT (e.g. see here for a store that has both). Should I go for the RTX 4070? It seems to perform better in the benchmarks. Edit: Not sure about the benchmarks anymore, RX 7800...

Yeah but I am in my homeoffice 2 days a week and only have one keyboard and one mouse, so I need to switch quite often.

Build Advice New long-term gaming build for 1500$

Oooh thank you, including links to my website! I will play around with searching for prices on different websites and post the result later. I think a gaming build should invest about a third into the GPU, so 500-600$ is fine for me, probably going for a RX7800XT (I checked amazon.de and they...

Build Advice New long-term gaming build for 1500$

I just figured my monitor is not 4k 🙃 . All the better, then I can play really well at 1440. I think pricing is somewhat similar to the US market, the RX7800XT goes for 500$ (Sapphire) to 600$ (Powercolor). Does the company actually matter?

Ah, haven't thought of that. Fortunately, external optical drives seem to be pretty cheap, so I can get one of these.

Build Advice New long-term gaming build for 1500$

Hello experts, I built my last gaming PC in 2012 (see here: https://forums.tomshardware.com/threads/1000-pc-for-gaming-and-video-editing-and-browsing.515615). It has served me very well for over 10 years. I can still install and play games, just not on the highest settings. It's still super...

GPU burns (sparks and smoke) at first startup of new build

Hi everyone, My BF and me just completed a new build (average gaming PC) today. There is no OS on it yet. The PC started fine without GPU. Then we added the GPU, and the PC wouldn't start anymore. Removed the GPU, PC started fine. Added GPU again, and this time a few seconds after pressing the...

New 1200$ SSD Office Build (including monitor and OS)

Thanks for the list! I've checked, the GPU is on the CPU, not the Mobo, sorry about that. Is the MSI B85-G41 PC Mate ATX LGA1150 Motherboard better than the Asrock H87 Pro4? Pricewise they're exactly the same where I live.

New 1200$ SSD Office Build (including monitor and OS)

I've checked out some more CPUs, and it seems to me like the i5-4440 is actually faster and cheaper than the i5-3450. It needs a different socket (1150 instead of 1155), so I'd also need a different motherboard. So how about this combination: CPU: Intel i5-4440, 184.25CHF, or even Intel...

New 1200$ SSD Office Build (including monitor and OS)

Dear all, Since I've had a great experience on this forum with my last build, I'm trying it again for my current build. I'm going to do a new build for my parents. They have a 4-year-old HP Laptop, I pimped it several times but it is getting slower again and it is time for something new. Since...

No, worries, I'll go with the 7870 (see my last post with the final build, ordering today, yay!). Thanks for all your help, it is really useful to have some guidance through the jungle of hardware. I really feel like I have a neat build now.

Ok, how about this one? Sapphire Radeon HD 7870 - GHz Edition - 2GB. Costs CHF256.40=$275 and therefore within budget, yay! Or this one: MSI R7870 Twin Frozr 2GD5/OC - 2GB. Costs CHF263.30=$282. What's the difference between the two, anyway? The fan?

Very cool, thanks for the tipps so far! Here are the links again, seems like I managed to mess them up: www.digitec.ch www.conrad.ch My last WD HD died after a few months (can happen anytime I know), so I thought I'd go for a seagate, but I have no problems choosing a WD again (in fact I've...
