And a RAID 1 also requires a strong backup routine. I've also had sudden total death of an SSD. 100% of the data recovered from the overnight backup. I do not know whether your ThinkCentre can boot from an OS volume as RAID 1. So I shall bow out.

Possibly. But the very low end hardware involved here is only a small part of the whole thing.

Well, I wouldn't buy a no name case OR drive.

No they do not. I've shucked a 8TB drive from an external enclosure, and it was exactly the same drive as if I had bough it on its own. Seagate 8TB, now 6 years old.

The hardware is so underpowered, that any entities that have some of these aren't interested in "alternative OS's"
