    Intel i7 7700 with GTX 1060 or AMD Ryzen 5 1600X with GTX 1080?

Trying to choose between two very different gaming machines. Computer #1 is an Alienware Aurora R6 with an Intel i7 7700 processor and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 graphics. Computer #2 is a CyberpowerPC Gamer Master with an AMD Ryzen 5 1600X CPU and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 graphics. Otherwise...

Slooow copying to internal RAID 0 drive

Thanks for the suggestions and advice. After conducting more tests, it appears that the issue occurs only when I copy files to or from OneDrive folders on my desktop. Perhaps OneDrive throttles all copy processes, or maybe there is some overhead where OneDrive folders are concerned. Whenever...

Slooow copying to internal RAID 0 drive

I recently installed 2 Seagate 8TB Enterprise drives on my ASUS P9X79 Pro system, and configured them as a striped 16TB volume (RAID 0) through Windows 10 Disk Management. AJA System Test measured the write speed as 334 MB/sec for a 4K video file 4GB in size. However, whenever I copy a file...

Internal Marvell RAID vs. external RAID

Well, I finally bought two Seagate 8TB Enterprise-class SATA drives (ST8000NM0055), installed them on two of the four Intel 3Gb/sec ports of my ASUS P9X79 Pro motherboard, and configured them as RAID 0 through Disk Management in Windows 7. I immediately got read speeds of 420 MB/sec, which is...

Internal Marvell RAID vs. external RAID

Due to the massive amount of data I'll be ingesting on a new video project, it looks as if I need to expand the capacity of my system by about 16TB. One option is to install two enterprise-class 8TB drives internally, connected to the Marvell 9128 controller on my motherboard (ASUS P9X79 Pro)...

Internal vs. external RAID on ASUS P9X79 Pro motherboard

Thanks for your thoughts. If my budget allowed it, I would go with RAID 5. (I already have an external drive set up for RAID 5, but it has only a quarter of the capacity I need.) All the video files are stored separately on archival drives. The RAID 0 drive would be just a working drive.

Internal vs. external RAID on ASUS P9X79 Pro motherboard

Due to the massive amount of data I'll be ingesting on a new video project, it looks as if I need to expand the capacity of my system by about 16TB. (This is a home-built Intel Core i7-3930K desktop based on the ASUS P9X79 Pro motherboard with 32GB of RAM.) I have $800 in my budget for new...
