Installed the new sound card and all is well. thanks for all the help.

I have installed a pci sound card and now have sound. Thanks for all the advice. I'm convinced the on board device must be defective.

thanks I picked up a audio card to day and will give it a try as soon as I get a few time.

I think I will go buy a sound card and install it. Question is will it over ride the on board card which wont work? I believe it will but thought I wound ask any way. Thanks for all the help. Venture Man

this is not my PC I'm just trying to fix it. No the sound did not work when it came here. It had sever virus problems and would barley boot up. sound is turned on in the bias. In hardware manager under sound it list legacy sound device and when I go into properties there is nothing.

Thanks for the quick reply. I tried to down load the sigmatel driver but after the down load it says no driver were down loaded. I think is say some place where they were no longer supporting the sigmatel driver.

Sound card is on board and i have tried the driver you suggest. Every thing I try says no device found. Could the on board audio device be dead?

note this is the same post as before. I reloaded the XP operating system due to virus infection. Now I have no sound. Dell Dimension 5150. I do not have the setup disk for the mother board but have tried to use drivers from the Dell site. no luck.
