    Old CPU Comparison

The earliest Semprons were based on the Athlon XP, which competed with the Pentium 4. So your friend will be getting a pretty serious downgrade. The Semprons use DDR-333, the Pentium 3 uses PC-133. The Semprons clock speed starts around 1.4 - 1.6 GHz, the Pentium 3 topped out around 1.2 GHz...

Barton hits the wall at 2.1Ghz

I have had problems with my OC when my PS was going out (basically it was just old and abused). I switched to a nice, new, dual-12v PSU and I am now able to overclock beyond my ability to cool the sucker. So if your PSU is old and/or cheap, I would suggest replacing it with something new and...

    usb-ide problem

I've had problems like this happen with certain computers and adapter combinations. For example, my room mate's computer will not read my 1GB flash drive, where as no other computer I've used it with has had a problem. The way I am able to get around it many times is to go into Computer...

Barton hits the wall at 2.1Ghz

I've got my Barton 2500+ up to 2.2GHz no problem. With ample cooling, and better memory, I have hit 2.5GHz with it (though it ran too hot for me to feel comfortable leaving it there for an extended period of time). I currently run at 200MHz FSB, 11x Multiplier, and 1.725v V-Core. I'm thinking...

    DELL Computers

Unfortunately, they have a proprietary BIOS (and possibly Motherboard for that matter) which do not allow you to adjust FSB or Multiplier. In fact, with most major brand PCs, if you even try to swap out the chip for something better, a lot of times they won't even POST. Sad, really... But this...

Question for quality builders with +5 years experience

I realize Dell's are crap, but this thread is about boards from the companies that aren't White-Box Machines.

Question for quality builders with +5 years experience

Over the years I've used just about every motherboard brand out there... Primary ones would be Gigabyte, MSI, Asus, Abit, DFI, and Intel. My major problem-boards were made by PC-Chips and ECS (same company from what I have heard), the later being owned by Fry's Electronics so you know it's...

    Is Intel that bandwidth Starved?

Not to discount all of what is said here, but, didn't nVidia - a 3rd party chipset maker - pioneer the dual-channel DDR technology? Wasn't it the nForce2 chipset that first had this technology, now seen in all chipsets (excluding some budget systems)? I agree that most of AMD's 3rd party chipset...

BTX-style ATX cases.. where are they?

Me = pwned You're right  I thought all BTX entailed was mounting the motherboard on the other side. A little google goes a long way...

BTX-style ATX cases.. where are they?

Not really... You just have to be under-rested and over-caffeinated :D Sorry to the original poster if that was misleading... The TT Circle is already BTX, and the TT Armor can be made to be BTX (though I wouldn't suggest it).

    G.SKILL respectable?

G.Skill, from what I've seen, is a bit of a new-comer to the enthusiast/gamer RAM market (compared to Corsair, Kingston, OCZ, etc.). Personally, I would go with OCZ or Corsair. But I know several people who've used G.Skill and have had no problems. Not a clear answer I know, just giving you...

HELP, CMOS checksum error, default loaded

Yeah no real worries there, unless it's every time you boot up. My motherboard likes to do that if I leave it unplugged for more than 2 or 3 minutes. It's annoying but easily fixed. I can literally set up my normal BIOS settings without looking at the screen at this point :D
