News Puget says its Intel chips failures are lower than Ryzen failures — retailer releases failure rate data, cites conservative power settings

Long time Intel user with a 13700K and now a 14900K, I have always dropped the vcore down from auto as the motherboards are pushing absurd voltage if left to their stock settings. Always fixed or adaptive with a 1.325v limit. I cannot believe that there was a 50% failure rate as if so the...

News New firmware addresses Intel CPU gaming instability — Asus Intel Baseline Profile fixes crashing on Raptor Lake and Raptor Lake Refresh chips

A couple of points. How has the new bios worked? Jay's Two cents reported that even with the new bios Asus were still a bit fast and loose with terminology on the settings. Also I would run HardwareInfo, the latest version and start your content creation workloads and monitor through HWinfo the...

Question My new pc build for review

A few changes bringing the price to $939 and I would find the additional $30 to $40 though with some searching on eBay and the like by picking up a second hand or return open boxed motherboard you can save even more. I would go Z series motherboard as you will have additional PCI lanes for...

News New firmware addresses Intel CPU gaming instability — Asus Intel Baseline Profile fixes crashing on Raptor Lake and Raptor Lake Refresh chips

Yep, the CPU under balanced power settings in windows will automatically downclock and drop vcore but if you leave the BIOS settings at Auto or even worse 'multi-core enhancement' especially ASUS! as many of the Z series motherboards like to do, under load it will still pump way too much voltage...

I'm with you, if there is price parity or only a little difference with the 13700 then the 14700 is the way to go with it's additional e-cores...

News New firmware addresses Intel CPU gaming instability — Asus Intel Baseline Profile fixes crashing on Raptor Lake and Raptor Lake Refresh chips

I have the 13700K from launch and the first thing I did was test the baseline settings in bios and I was surprised at how much vcore was being pushed on auto by MSI as this was beyond the pale at 1.4v plus and it isn't just MSI but all motherboard manufacturers. Funny thing, once you undervolt...

Question Which would be the best buy for high productivity use? i7 13700K or i7 14700 non-K?

On the e-cores side, they do make a significant difference, not so much for gaming though it would be good to understand what your core workloads will be?

Question Which would be the best buy for high productivity use? i7 13700K or i7 14700 non-K?

The same applies to the non K version so if price is the same go with the 14700 as the 4 additional cores will help.

Question Which would be the best buy for high productivity use? i7 13700K or i7 14700 non-K?

I have the 13700K and it is a stellar CPU but if the 14700K is at the same price or very near the same price then go 14700K as it has 4 extra e-cores providing a bump in performance for multi-threadsed workloads. PS also make sure whichever one you get, undervolt it as the auto bios settings...

Build Advice Finally got around to upgrading

Have to agree with the comments as that motherboard needs to be swapped out. I would go and try to find a used, refurbished Z690 as you might be able to pick up a bargain D4 motherboard and this will help for the long term as you can upgrade to a K CPU from 13th and 14th gen in the future. There...

Question How reliable are Silverstone AIO coolers?

Modern AIO's are very good and I have been using a 360 AIO for many, many years without any issues. Silverstone in general is a good company and I see no reason as to why it would not do a good job for at least 3 to 5 years. Just took a look at the hi res images from the website and it also...
