It is in English too

I have a dual core cpu but can't see it in task manager!

Have you reinstalled Windows? I'm not certain if it's true for XP, but under Windows 2000 you had to reinstall Windows if you added a second CPU. This ensured that it loaded the SMP kernel. Otherwise it runs, but only on one processor.

Recommend an OS for crap-old computer.

Agreed. Though W2K will run in small amounts of RAM it's hopelessly slow. Add in an old processor like the K6 and it would be almost unusable unless you can increase the RAM. I'd also check the hard disk space. My W2K installation uses 1.7GB apart from the applications. I'd stick with W98...

    Strange Error.

For security reasons I always disable the messenger service and the remote registry service on W2K machines.

    Vista DRM?

The issue of DRM as a component of PC's and operating systems is based on two assumptions. Firstly that large numbers of people will adopt high definition video. And secondly that they will want to use PC's as media centres. Markets don't always adopt the highest quality level that is available...

    why would you! run Vista?

I will certainly skip XP. Clearly support for W2K will stop, I'd guess in a year or two. Many corporates are still running 2K, and won't upgrade to Vista until SP1 is released, so my guess is that W2K support will continue until then. By then there will probably be some real advantages to 64...

    Y2K & Dual Core/Quad Core

I've run W2K on dual processor systems. If you install W2K onto a new hard disk it automatically installs the SMP kernel. There's nothing special to do! Run Task Manager then click the Performance tab and you'll see two CPU's.

Vista 32 bit support 4 gigs of ram?

There are also hardware issues. A 32 bit processor can only address 4GB (less any address space used for other purposes). In practice, current 64 bit processors can't actually address 18 exobytes because they don't have 64 physical address lines. But they can address a great deal more than 4...

    why would you! run Vista?

Those were very good reasons to upgrade from 98/ME to W2K. I've yet to see a good reason to upgrade to XP, and at least one good reason not to (PA). So I haven't. Doubtless the disk and memory addressing issues will eventually force us all to upgrade, but for most users those aren't pressing...
