News China introduces up to 2TB 'Mini SSD' that's 3X faster than the microSD Express used in the Switch 2, but smaller — tiny '1517' SSD is just 15x17mm...

On paper, yes it is fast. In reality, I think this will throttle badly. Modern SSDs run hot without decent passive cooling. Having used 2230 and 2242 SSDs, they can be super hot and throttle. In such a small size and no cooling, I seriously doubt it can sustain that kind of speed.

News Former Intel CEO lays out radical plan to rescue the company — Suggests outing Lip-Bu Tan and asks for $40 billion investment from Nvidia, Apple, a...

Personally, I don’t think it is a problem with the CEO. The fact that Intel had so many CEOs in the last decade is due to the board that was too comfortable, sat on the problems and constantly flip flopping between strategies. This CEO is basically hired to execute what the board wants. But as I...

News Blizzard's ex-CEO says Battlefield 6 will "boot stomp" Call of Duty this year because the franchise has "gone downhill" — calls it a victory fo...

I beg to differ on the “lonely at the top” remark. It’s more like lazy at the top. Again, these big companies are just milking established franchises. Games have little fun factor other than mostly graphical facelifts.

News Battlefield 6 reaches record half a million concurrent players on Steam, an all-time high for the franchise — 520K+ open beta surpasses every Call...

The way they are hyping it, I am sure the numbers will ballon. Problem is maintaining that number especially when people already tested in beta and may or may not like the game. Not that I am skeptical about this game, but in general, these games are just milking of established franchises and...

News Samsung's revived Z-NAND targets 15x performance increase over traditional NAND — once a competitor to Intel's Optane, Z-NAND makes a play for AI d...

As far as I recalled, Z-NAND is no different from SLC. If the underlying technology is still pretty much the same, I don’t think it will materially improve latency over conventional NAND solution. Between Optane and Z-NAND, I believe the former is much better when it comes to endurance and...

News E-paper hits 75 Hz to better suit productivity tasks — kits in two screen sizes go up for pre-order, starting at $199

I wonder what is the point. Personally, I find e-ink displays great for reading books and comics where the limited color reproduction and slow refresh rate works fine. Moving it to 75hz makes the screen refresh faster, but when it is mostly slow or static images, I wonder if it is worth the...

News AMD's Z2 Extreme flies past Intel's Lunar Lake in new gaming benchmarks — MSI Claw 8 running at 17W favors the Z2E by roughly 8.5%, lead drops to 6...

I believe this is indeed the case. Lunar Lake itself is just an 8 cores design and so probably gave it an advantage when it comes to power consumption. Anyway, coming from a Ryzen Z1 Extreme user, the Z2 Extreme is not attractive at all. Just as you rightfully called out, the decision to stick...

Review DeepCool Assassin VC Elite Review: The best cooler you can’t buy in the USA

There were 2 I believe, but I feel one of the biggest problem with Coolermaster's cooling solution is the lack of commitment to support newer sockets. Essentially, it feels like they prefer to let the product "die" by not producing retention bracket to support newer CPU sockets. Considering they...

Review DeepCool Assassin VC Elite Review: The best cooler you can’t buy in the USA

I was looking forward to seeing this cooler in action and it did not disappoint in terms of performance. The price however is not competitive when you have Thermalright spamming cheap coolers in the market.

News Wuchang: Fallen Feathers' latest patch accused of faking internal render resolution to boost FPS — game runs at 'Quality' upscaling even when the r...

There has been a number of Unreal Engine 5 powered games, and almost all run really poorly, with the exception of a small company that produced Expedition 33. So I wasn't expecting a smooth rollout of another UE5 based game from a big publisher.

News Steam comes to RISC-V thanks to emulation — AAA titles like The Witcher 3 and Crysis already playable

Playable versus being able to play games smoothly is different. Having said that, I think it is a step in the right direction. X86 have proven to be inefficient over the years as ARM and RISCV chips becomes more capable.

News Intel slashes Core Ultra 5 225 and Core Ultra 5 225F pricing by up to 21% — get entry-level Arrow Lake for 13% below MSRP

I guess Intel is clearing out Arrow Lake CPUs. If the reports are accurate, I would think that sales of these CPUs are happening at a glacial speed. With no demand, the only way to create demand is to drastically cut price. Arrow Lake is not as bad as it sounds, but it’s just not good for games...

News Donkey Kong Bananza among Switch 2 games with no DLSS support — reviewers balk at Nintendo's aversion to technology

The APU in the Switch 2 is not weak as you think it is. The reason why it cannot perform well is because of the focus on low power draw. For context, the Ampere iGPU comes with 3x the number of processing units than what’s on the RDNA 2 iGPU found on the Steam Deck. It’s just lowly clocked on...

News Switch 2 account ban saga continues as Redditor taunts Nintendo after ripping 20 cartridges and playing online — others warn that it's just a matte...

The tool certainly can be misused and it’s clearly being misused. However, as a Switch owner and having multiple game cartridges, I think it is a great solution especially if you are on a vacation. You need the cartridge to run the game and I must make a choice what is the best game to slot into...
