News Intel's Arrow Lake for Desktops and Laptops Will Have Different Instruction Sets

Well you should read better. I didn't say CPU instruction sets, I said instruction sets. I said this specifically because I was addressing a complaint that Intel CPUs were hard to code for because the instruction set was a mess but AMDs was not while the person made a bunch of exaggerated...

News Intel's Arrow Lake for Desktops and Laptops Will Have Different Instruction Sets

AMD does not in fact have the same instruction set in every generation across market segments, this is trivially provable if you actually look at AMD specs. Different segments can and do have different feature sets. You can't use iGPU and decoding instructions on CPUs that don't have integrated...

News Nvidia Client Arm CPUs Are Not an Immediate Threat Claims Intel CEO

You're in the wrong head space if you think copyright law and patent law are in a state where they make 'sense'. That is the current state of affairs though. You can in fact make a CPU exactly as it was that's out of patent, but you can't make changes to it that are still covered by other...

News Nvidia Client Arm CPUs Are Not an Immediate Threat Claims Intel CEO

I could be wrong, but the last I heard ISA's are protected by copywrite and individual implementations in hardware are only protected by patent. So you can build a Pentium Pro, but you can't just build a x86 processor that uses the ISA features available on the Pentium Pro in custom silicon.

News Nvidia Client Arm CPUs Are Not an Immediate Threat Claims Intel CEO

Intel seems to think that x86-64 and more modern versions of x86 have been around long enough that the amount of people still running code that hasn't been migrated to something emulatible is small enough that they can trim some things out of the ISA. And frankly they are probably right. There...

News Intel Shows Off Lunar Lake-Based PC, Unveils Panther Lake for 2025

Arrow Lake is Desktop only as far as I know. With Intel's move to tiles they seem to be moving to a mobile layout that gets its own name and a desktop layout that gets its own name. Seems they are rearranging the tiles and making core optimizations for the different segments now that they can...

News Intel's Core i9-14900K Shows Increased Multi-Threaded Performance in Leaked Benchmarks

The answer to the last bit is unequivocally yes. There is more that can be gotten out of the DUV machines intel is using for the entire Intel7 line. Mostly because it's my understanding that the new mask making tools for EUV processes can be back ported for better DUV processes for better...

News Intel Demos Meteor Lake CPU with On-Package LPDDR5X

Latency and power usage will be better. But at a very real point the DRAM chips themselves can only go so fast and their bandwidth is rather fixed. You'd have to move to some kind of exotic memory to get low latency and high bandwidth. And HBM as primary memory for consumer products is likely...

News Intel's Core i9-14900K Shows Increased Multi-Threaded Performance in Leaked Benchmarks

That's fine. I will admit it just erked me that it seemed a rush to jump to a pre-conceived conclusion. The possibility was that the article was off and/or the chart was off. (Because something was very obviously off.) It bothered me that most people just took the chart as the thing that was...

News Intel's Core i9-14900K Shows Increased Multi-Threaded Performance in Leaked Benchmarks

The authors article is correct~ish, the author's chart is incorrect. And that's the problem. You're doing the wrong math, because you can't be bothered to look at the actual images in the article which show the correct numbers. If you look at those you get the 14900K with 978 single threaded...
